Need help repairing the deck in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon? Here’s how to start the quest, gather wood fast, and where to find Lumbering Spots to speed up the grind.

How to Repair the Deck (and Farm Wood Fast) in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is filled with layered quests and crafting goals, especially once you start rebuilding the Village on the island.

One of the earliest tasks you’ll run into is Repairing the Deck — a seemingly simple job that needs one critical material: Wood. And as you’ll soon find out, wood can be kind of a pain to collect.

This guide covers how to start the quest, where to get wood, and how to finish the repair quickly so you can move on with rebuilding Avalon.

How to Start Repairing the Deck

Head to the Horns of the South fortress and make your way to the lower left area. Look for some scaffolding — follow it down to the road that leads to the Village.

As soon as you approach the Village gate, Keeper Tiernan will stop you with a quick warning not to stir up trouble.

Ask him if he needs any help, and this kicks off a series of village restoration quests. The first one? Repairing the Deck — and it requires 50 wood to complete.

Where to Find Wood in Tainted Grail

Wood is technically a basic resource, but it’s surprisingly limited early on. Here’s how to get it:

How to find and farm wood in tainted grail the fall of avalon

1. Loot & Containers

  • Some containers and crates (especially indoors) have set loot that includes wood.
  • Enemies can drop mystery items during Wyrdness hours (at night). You’ll need to ID them at a campfire — some can yield wood.

2. Buying From Vendors

  • Vendors sell a limited amount of wood each day.
  • Pro tip: At Horns of the South, you can rest at the campfire near Osbryth the blacksmith, then buy up to 30 wood. Rest again for 24 in-game hours, and repeat. Easy farming loop if you have coin.

3. Chop It Yourself – Woodcutting Axe + Lumbering Spots

  • With a Woodcutting Axe, you can harvest wood from designated Lumbering Spots once per in-game day.
  • Each chop gives you 2 wood, but uses about 33% of your Stamina, so rest every 3 swings.

Lumbering Spot Locations:

  • Horns of the South: Near the shooting range
  • Margh’s Hunter Tower: North of the fortress, along the path to the Cemetery
  • Cuanacht (Lower City): Somewhere in town, keep an eye out

Optional: Use a Mad Dog Elixir for infinite stamina for 20 seconds (costs 60% of your HP) — not required, but handy if you’re in a rush.

Best Way to Farm Wood Quickly

If you’re low on money or not investing in Practicality (which lowers vendor prices), your best bet is to go full woodcutter mode. Get that axe and start swinging. Combine chopping with vendor restocks for a steady supply.

If you’re flush with coin, the vendor method is faster — especially with Osbryth and that handy campfire loop.

Finishing the Deck Repair

Once you’ve gathered 50 wood, head back to the broken pier in the Village. Interact with the damaged deck to trigger a short cutscene. Boom — deck’s fixed.

After that, report back to Tiernan. He’ll thank you, and you’ll unlock the next big job: Repairing the Village, which asks for a whopping 100 wood. Time to stockpile even more!

Final Tips

  • Always keep an eye on containers — some respawn loot after in-game days.
  • If you find a merchant selling wood, buy it. Even a small stack helps cut down grinding time.
  • Start hunting for the Woodcutting Axe early — you’ll use it a lot in this questline.
