Sandfall Interactive is hoping to bring a Photo Mode to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in the future, but for now, the focus remains on bug fixes and improvements.

Sandfall Interactive has big hopes for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, including the possibility of adding a dedicated Photo Mode sometime in the future.

As the debut game from this new studio, Expedition 33 has already gone above and beyond expectations—both critically and commercially.

In a recent interview on the Final Fantasy Union YouTube channel, art director Nicholas Maxon addressed a fan question about a Photo Mode, which has become one of the most requested features post-launch.

Maxon confirmed that the team is totally on board with the idea and it’s high on their wishlist too. That said, he also pointed out that implementing it is a bit more complex than it might seem.

“It’s something we’d absolutely like to do,” Maxon shared, though he added that it’ll take more effort compared to other updates. So while it’s not happening right away, it’s definitely on their radar.

Photo Mode Might Come, But Fixes Come First

Before diving into big new features like Photo Mode, Maxon said the studio is currently laser-focused on ironing out bugs and improving the overall experience.

One example he mentioned was the Lumina loadouts system in Expedition 33, hinting at tweaks to make it more user-friendly. No timeline yet, but it’s clear the team is listening closely to player feedback.

Since the game’s launch, Expedition 33 has sparked conversation around the return of strong, focused AA games.

Sandfall Interactive’s portfolio director, Matthew Handrahan, weighed in on this, saying part of the game’s success comes from its commitment to being tight and meaningful, rather than overloaded with unnecessary content.

“Brevity should be more of a virtue in gaming,” Handrahan said, emphasizing how Expedition 33 respects players’ time without skimping on quality.
