Pokemon Trading Card Game fans are buzzing with excitement after getting a sneak peek at the secret rare cards from the upcoming Black Bolt and White Flare expansion. This new set is dropping in Japan on June 6, and it’s packed with content that celebrates the Unova region and its iconic Pokemon.
Black Bolt and White Flare is the eleventh expansion in the Scarlet and Violet era, and it’s bringing over 172 new cards to the table. Gen 5 fans are in for a treat, especially with the debut of a fresh card rarity called Black White Rare (BWR). These cards stand out thanks to their solid-colored backgrounds, intricate designs, and flashy patterns.
To hype things up even more, the folks over at Poke Beach have dropped images of the secret rares— and they’re stunning. People on social media are already sharing their favorites, including cards of the Black and White starter Pokemon, and Trainer cards featuring N and Hilda (the female protagonist from Gen 5).
There are also gorgeous illustrations of ex Pokemon like Whimsicott, Bouffalant, and Excadrill, plus powerhouse Unova legends like Meloetta, Kyurem, Zekrom, and Reshiram.
But that’s not all—Poke Beach also pointed out that we haven’t seen all the secret rares yet. Cards featuring Palpitoad, Whirlipede, Cottonee, Escavalier, Klang, Elgyem, Beeheyem, Accelgor, and Pawniard are still under wraps.
Also making a return in this set are Poke Ball and Master Ball reverse holos, and fans can look forward to finding god packs—special boosters loaded entirely with secret rare or better cards.
If you’re outside Japan, don’t worry. The Black Bolt and White Flare expansion will hit the West on July 18. It’ll be the fifth special set from the Scarlet and Violet series to make it overseas—and the first time a major Japanese expansion gets a localized release.
In the meantime, fans can check out Destined Rivals, which just launched on May 30 and features a whopping 244 new cards.
Get your sleeves ready—there’s a lot to collect!
