Oblivion Remastered: Where to Buy and Use the Soul Trap Spell

Soul Trap Spell

Learn where to buy the Soul Trap spell in Oblivion Remastered, how to use it correctly to fill Soul Gems, and how the spell evolves with your Mysticism skill.

Magic is a core part of survival in Oblivion Remastered.
Even if you prefer swinging swords or shooting arrows, having a few spells in your arsenal can make a huge difference — especially when it comes to enchanting your gear or keeping your magical items charged.

One spell you absolutely don’t want to skip is Soul Trap. It might sound a little heartless trapping the souls of your enemies, but hey — if they’re trying to kill you, it’s fair game, right?

Here’s everything you need to know about where to find Soul Trap and how to actually use it effectively.

Where to Buy the Soul Trap Spell

You can buy tons of spells all over Oblivion Remastered, but Soul Trap is a little trickier to track down.
It’s considered a Mysticism spell, and not just any old merchant sells it.

To buy Soul Trap, you need to visit a Mages Guild.
Luckily, almost every major city in Cyrodiil has one.

Soul Trap Spell

If you want a guaranteed spot:

  • Head to the Mages Guild in Chorrol.
  • Find Alberic Litte inside — he’s one of the spell vendors.
  • He sells the Soul Trap spell for around 360 Gold.

Tip:
Even if you aren’t a full-time mage, it’s worth joining the Mages Guild early so you can get access to vendors like Alberic and spells like Soul Trap.

How to Use the Soul Trap Spell

Soul Trap lets you capture the soul of a dying enemy inside a Soul Gem — and you’ll definitely need that if you want to recharge enchanted weapons without spending a fortune buying fully charged Soul Gems.

Soul Trap Spell Details

Here’s how it works:

  • Cast Soul Trap on an enemy when they’re almost dead.
  • After you cast it, you’ll have about 20 seconds to kill the enemy.
  • If you kill them within that window, their soul gets trapped in the smallest empty Soul Gem you’re carrying.
  • If you wait too long, the spell will expire and you’ll lose the chance to capture the soul.

Important:
Don’t cast Soul Trap at the start of a fight unless you’re fighting really weak enemies.
It’s safer (and smarter) to hit them with it when they’re already close to death for a guaranteed soul capture.

How the Soul Trap Spell Improves With Mysticism Rank

As you get better at Mysticism, the Soul Trap spell evolves into stronger versions, letting you capture souls easier and in larger areas.

Here’s what it looks like:

Mysticism RankSpellEffect
ApprenticeSoul TrapTraps the soul of one dying creature. Lasts 20 seconds.
JourneymanGreater Soul TrapTraps the soul of one dying creature. Lasts 30 seconds.
ExpertSuperior Soul TrapTraps the souls of dying creatures within a 10-foot radius. Lasts 40 seconds.
MasterLegendary Soul TrapTraps the souls of dying creatures within a 20-foot radius. Lasts 1 minute.

The higher your Mysticism skill, the easier it becomes to trap multiple souls at once — which means faster Soul Gem charging and way less stress keeping your enchanted gear ready for battle.

If you plan on using enchanted weapons (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?), Soul Trap is absolutely essential in Oblivion Remastered.
It saves you tons of gold, gives you full control over your gear’s power, and once you level up Mysticism, it becomes even more ridiculously useful.

Grab it early, practice your timing, and you’ll never have to fear running out of weapon charges mid-fight again. 🎯💀
