How to Complete Corruption And Conscience and Choose the Best Reward

Find out how to complete Corruption And Conscience in Oblivion Remastered and decide between justice or loot — each path leads to different rewards!
Most questlines in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered are about choices — some moral, some downright dirty — and honestly, sometimes the rewards make it real tempting to throw ethics out the window.
Corruption And Conscience is one of those classic cases, where dealing with a corrupt guard captain brings you to a crossroads: play it clean, or go rogue for bigger loot?
Let’s break it all down.
Starting Corruption And Conscience

- Location: Cheydinhal
- How to Start:
- Visit Cheydinhal during the day.
- Start chatting with townsfolk until you find someone with a “Fines” dialogue option.
- Best bet? Talk to Llevana Nedaren first — she fast-tracks you into the quest.
- Other NPCs that can trigger it: Maknok gro-Coblag or Bazur gro-Gharz.
- Visit Cheydinhal during the day.
After starting the quest, you’ll either be sent straight to Llevana, or directed there anyway. She’ll clue you in on Ulrich, the corrupt captain of the guard.
Next, you’ll talk to Garrus Darelliun, Ulrich’s second-in-command.
Important: Raise Garrus’ Disposition above 50 to get him to spill the details.
He’ll then send you to Aldos Othran, a victim of Ulrich’s crooked fines.
What Happens Next
Unfortunately, things go south fast. Aldos loses it, attacks a guard, and dies.
Sad — but it sets the stage for the big choice: how to bring Ulrich down.
You now have two options:
Taking Sides with Llevana: Kill Ulrich
If you choose Llevana’s way, here’s what goes down:
- Tell Ulrich that Llevana wants to meet him at her house.
- When he shows up, she unleashes a swarm of killer mice (yeah, you read that right).
- Ulrich gets gnawed to death.
Rewards for this path:
- Loot Ulrich’s body for a Silver Battle Axe, Gold, and keys to locked guard rooms.
- Access to steal even more valuable gear from the barracks.
- 75 Gold bonus from Garrus after reporting the incident.
Catch:
Llevana will end up jailed for a bit… but you walk away clean.

Taking Sides with Garrus: Arrest Ulrich
If you go with Garrus’ plan:
- He’ll hand you a key to Ulrich’s private quarters.
- Sneak into the room and find a secret letter on a book.
- Important: Don’t just read the letter — take it too!

Bring the letter back to Garrus, and after a two-hour wait at the Bridge Inn, he’ll report that Ulrich has been arrested.
Rewards for this path:
- 150 Gold coins — double the payout from the Llevana path.
- You can still swipe some items from Ulrich’s room, if you’re sneaky about it.
Which Path Should You Choose?
- Llevana’s Path = More loot + fun chaos (but technically blood on your hands).
- Garrus’ Path = Cleaner justice + more upfront Gold (but fewer opportunities for big steals).
If you’re role-playing a hero, go Garrus.
If you’re all about the loot and don’t mind a few mouse-induced murders, Llevana’s the way. 🐀⚔️
