Want to assassinate NPCs in Oblivion Remastered without lifting a finger? Here’s how Poisoned Apples work, how to use them, and where to find them!

Oblivion Remastered is packed with all kinds of fun little interactions between NPCs and the world around them.

One cool detail? NPCs will actually sit down and start eating food they find — either on a table or from their own inventory.

And if you know what you’re doing, you can totally use this to your advantage by slipping them a Poisoned Apple. No suspicion, no Bounty, no messy sword fights. Just smooth, clean assassinations.

That said, Poisoned Apples are kinda rare, and using them properly can be a little tricky. Here’s everything you need to know.

Poisoned Apple Effects

If you or an NPC eats a Poisoned Apple, it triggers the Deadly Poison effect.

  • It drains 10 Health per second — permanently.
  • It ignores all Poison Resistances (even racial ones like the Redguard’s Poison Resist).
  • And here’s the kicker: no potion, spell, or cure can remove it. Once it’s eaten, it’s a death sentence.

When an NPC munches on a Poisoned Apple, they’ll slowly drop dead — and no one will bat an eye. Even if they collapse in the middle of a Guard’s dinner, you stay clean.

This makes Poisoned Apples perfect for certain Dark Brotherhood missions, like the fan-favorite murder mystery quest “Whodunit?”.

How To Use a Poisoned Apple

There are two ways to get an NPC to eat a Poisoned Apple:

1. Reverse Pickpocketing

  • Sneak behind the NPC.
  • Open their inventory (pickpocket menu).
  • Scroll through your stuff and place the Poisoned Apple into their inventory.
  • Important: Make sure you steal or remove all other food items from them first. Otherwise, they might just eat bread instead of your deadly gift.

Once they get hungry and look for food — boom, they snack on the apple and start the countdown to their doom.

2. Placing It On a Table

  • Drop the Poisoned Apple from your inventory.
  • Hold down the Interact button to pick it up manually (dragging it).
  • Place it on a table where you know the NPC likes to eat or hang out.
  • Clear out all other food nearby so the apple is the only snack option.

NPCs are creatures of habit — if there’s food and they’re hungry, they’ll go for it without questioning anything.

Pro Tip: Watch your target’s daily schedule first. See where they usually sit down to eat before setting your trap.

Where To Find Poisoned Apples

Poisoned Apples aren’t exactly lying around in every kitchen — here’s where you can score them:

Fort Farragut (Lucien Lachance’s Lair)

  • Located northeast of Cheydinhal.
  • Follow the Dark Brotherhood questline until you’re told to find Lucien here.
  • Inside his lair, check the locked barrel on the right side — it’s a Very Hard lock.
  • Inside, you’ll find 10x Poisoned Apples — and bonus: the barrel respawns every 3 days.

M’raaj-Dar’s Shop (Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, Cheydinhal)

  • M’raaj-Dar, the Khajiit trader, sells 5x Poisoned Apples.
  • They’re pricey, but his stock refreshes regularly like any merchant.
  • Boost your Disposition with him by doing Dark Brotherhood quests to get better prices.

Other Spots (Single Use)

  • Bravil Wizard’s Grotto: There’s a chest with one Poisoned Apple inside.
  • “The Purification” quest: Lucien gives you one during this quest.

Both of these are one-time pickups, so if you need a reliable supply, Fort Farragut’s barrel or M’raaj-Dar’s store is your best bet.
