The Assassinated Man: A Unique Dark Brotherhood Quest in Oblivion Remastered

Most missions for the Dark Brotherhood involve death, destruction, and all sorts of shady chaos—but The Assassinated Man quest is a refreshing twist. Instead of killing your target, you’re helping him escape from crippling debt by staging his death. This one’s a bit of a performance, so here’s how to pull it off without a hitch.

🗡️ Starting the Quest: Meet Francois Motierre

You can begin The Assassinated Man after completing the Scheduled for Execution contract. Once that’s done, talk to Vincente Valtieri in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and accept your next job.

Your target—or rather, your client—is Francois Motierre, hiding out in Chorrol. Head to his home, but make sure you bring some lockpicks—you’ll need to pick his door.

When you enter, you’ll meet a very nervous Francois, who’s terrified about the hitman Hides-His-Heart showing up. You’ll be given a special dagger called Languorwine Blade (laced with poison) and a bottle of antidote for later.

🎭 Faking the Death

Here’s where things get fun:

1. Wait for Hides-His-Heart (the Argonian assassin) to show up and start talking to Francois.
   
2. When the timing feels right, stab Francois with the Languorwine Blade.
   
3. A quest update will confirm it worked—now run out of the house and leave Chorrol before things get messy.
   
4. After you’re out of town, wait 24 in-game hours so Francois’ body can be moved to the Undercroft of the Chapel of Stendarr.

🧟 Reviving Francois and Dealing With Undead

Head to the Chapel and locate Francois’ “corpse” inside the Undercroft. He’s lying on a stone slab, not quite as dead as he looks.

1. Use the antidote on him and he’ll snap back to life.
   
2. Before you leave, you’ll have to clear out some headless zombies lurking nearby.
   
3. After the fight, escort Francois to the Gray Mare Inn. He’ll thank you and go on his way.

🎁 Quest Rewards

With Francois safe and the job done, return to the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and speak with Vincente.

You’ll be rewarded with:

• Sanctuary Well Key – A shortcut in and out of the Sanctuary.
  
• Cruelty’s Heart Amulet – A nifty piece of gear.
  
• Eliminator Rank – A step up in the Brotherhood’s hierarchy.
  

And that’s it—the fake death plot is a success, and you’ve handled a Dark Brotherhood job without actually killing the client (a rare twist!).
