How to Complete “A Brotherhood Betrayed” in Oblivion Remastered

Uncover the truth behind a suspicious vampire killing in Oblivion Remastered’s “A Brotherhood Betrayed” quest. Full walkthrough with outcomes and rewards.
A Brotherhood Betrayed Quest Guide – Oblivion Remastered
One of the more mysterious and morally gray side quests in Oblivion Remastered kicks off when you arrive in Bruma, a quiet northern town with a not-so-quiet scandal. A man named Bradon Lirrian has just been killed—allegedly by a vampire hunter named Raynil Dralas. But the more you dig, the more it becomes clear that things aren’t what they seem.
Here’s how to start the quest, track down Raynil, uncover the truth, and score a powerful reward.
🔍 How to Start “A Brotherhood Betrayed”

You can start this quest in Bruma, either by:
- Talking to townsfolk about rumors, which will lead you to Bradon’s murder.
- Going straight to Bradon’s house, located at the southern edge of town.
Guards and Erline Lirrian (Bradon’s widow) will tell you that Raynil Dralas, a Dunmer vampire hunter, killed Bradon because he believed him to be a vampire. There are even corpses with bite marks in the basement—sounds convincing, right? Not so fast.
🕵️♂️ Tracking Down Raynil Dralas

Ask around Bruma and eventually you’ll learn that Raynil is holed up at Olav’s Tap and Tack, the local inn.
- Olav will only spill info if his Disposition toward you is high enough. Use persuasion or bribe him if needed.
- He’ll give you a key to Raynil’s room, where you’ll find Gelebourne’s Journal hidden behind the dresser.
This journal reveals that Bradon and Raynil were former adventuring buddies, along with a third partner named Gelebourne. Raynil murdered them both to keep a shared treasure all to himself.
⚔️ Confronting Raynil Dralas at Boreal Stone Cave

Take the journal back to Carius, the guard handling the case. He’ll tell you to meet him at the inn in an hour. After that meeting, you’ll be sent to Boreal Stone Cave to bring Raynil to justice.
Important note:
You only have one in-game day to find Raynil before he escapes, so don’t delay.
At the cave, Raynil won’t come quietly—you’ll have to fight and kill him.
🎁 Quest Completion and Rewards
After defeating Raynil, return to Bruma and talk to Erline Lirrian. She’ll thank you and reveal a final twist: the “Mundane Amulet” involved in all this is actually the Phylactery of Litheness, a powerful item that fortifies your Speed stat.
