All Secrets in Lumiere – Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Lumiere is the very first area you explore in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and it’s more than just a tutorial space—it’s home to the Expedition members and packed with emotional story beats, hidden items, and a few quirky surprises. While not every interaction nets you an item, they all contribute to the rich atmosphere and character-driven world.
Some secrets are all about lore, while others reward you with Chroma, gear, or even new outfits. Here’s everything you can uncover before Sophie is sent off for her Gommage. Also check All Flying Manor Paint Cage Locations
🟣 Chroma Locations in Lumiere
You can pick up three Chroma items hidden throughout the city:
- Near Marie and her daughter – Climb the boxes beside them.
- Behind Lune – Check the balcony where she’s playing music.
- At the harbor – On the left side, surrounded by people.
These are easy to miss if you’re rushing through, so take a moment to explore.
🧵 Richard’s Son – Crimson Uniform Quest

Before checking out the Expedition recruitment stage, talk to Richard, Sophie’s sewing teacher. He explains that he fought with his son, Jules, who won’t be attending the Gommage. Richard gives you a uniform he made for Jules and asks you to deliver it at the Expedition Festival.
After the Gommage cutscene, head to the Festival and find Jules near Maelle’s location. Giving him the uniform leads to a bittersweet moment—Jules gives it to Gustave, unlocking the Crimson Uniform, a stylish red alternate outfit.
🎈 Eloise’s Challenge – Burst the Balloon

Near the recruitment stage, you’ll find Eloise venting her frustrations. Her father died fighting for the Expedition, and she’s lost faith in its mission. To challenge her beliefs, Gustave must destroy a balloon in one hit.
How to do it:
- Fully Overcharge Gustave’s arm.
- Hit the balloon with a single charged strike.
If you pull it off, Eloise will reward you with the Colour of Lumina.
🎨 Nicolas the Painter – Recoat Reward

Further along, you’ll find Lune playing music and Nicolas, a painter staring at a blank canvas. Talk to him and agree to inspire his art. This triggers a battle against Sophie.
To help Nicolas paint:
- Parry Sophie’s attack without getting hit.
After the scene, Nicolas will complete his painting and reward you with a Recoat, which lets you reallocate Skill Points or Attributes for any character.
🗑️ Trash-Can Man – Hidden Chroma Catalyst

Right near Nicolas, there’s a glowing trash can labeled “a perfectly normal trash can.” Yeah, sure.
- Interact with it multiple times to reveal Trash-Can Man, a bizarre NPC hiding from the Gommage.
- He’ll ask you to ignore him… then give you a Chroma Catalyst for your curiosity.
🤡 Mime Encounter – Music Record + Trophy

Close to the harbor’s performance stage, you’ll run into a Mime who’s not just miming—he’s hiding something.
- Defeat the Mime to earn the “Lumiere” Music Record.
- You’ll also unlock the “A Peculiar Encounter” trophy/achievement.
✨ Final Notes
Lumiere is a beautiful introduction to the world of Expedition 33, but it’s also quietly loaded with emotional weight and small payoffs. Some moments—like Sophie’s influence on the city or Richard’s fractured relationship with his son—don’t come with loot, but they absolutely leave an impression.
