Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Esoteric Ruins Maze Walkthrough & Collectibles Guide
The Esoteric Ruins is an optional location in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and it houses a passive Nevron that offers a unique quest. This mission revolves around finding a special item, but you’ll need to navigate a tricky maze first. This guide walks you through the entire maze, pointing out every collectible you’ll come across on your journey.
Where to Find the Nevron
As you approach the map’s only expedition flag, you’ll spot the Nevron appearing as a glowing blue orb. It’s hard to miss and signals the start of the maze challenge.
How to Open the Paint Cage
After climbing the handholds and golden thread just past the Lumiere’s Wreck expedition flag, head down the slope and you’ll run into a Paint Cage. You’ll need to break three locks to open it:
- Keep heading down the slope and check the alcove to your right.
- At the bottom of the slope, look past the statue of the seated figure.
- To the left, across a small gap, you’ll find the third lock.
Collecting a Colour of Lumina

Once the Paint Cage is handled, go back to the bottom of the slope. Follow the side path and drop down at the end to enter a corridor. There you’ll find your first Colour of Lumina.
Solving the Maze

To enter the maze, walk past the statue of the seated figure. Here’s the room-by-room breakdown:
- Room 1 – Enter the maze and shoot the brazier here.
- Room 2 – Move into this room and shoot the Room 1 brazier again from here.
- Still in Room 2, shoot the brazier in that room.
- Head into Room 4.
- Continue to Room 5.
- Move into Room 6 and shoot the brazier in Room 5 from here.
- Walk through Room 9.
- Enter Room 8 and exit the maze.

Post-Maze Collectibles
As soon as you exit the maze:
- Look to the left to grab another Colour of Lumina.
- Across from the exit, there’s a key quest item: Wood Boards.
- To the right of the Wood Boards, there’s one more Colour of Lumina waiting for you.

Wrap-Up & Rewards
Use the grapple points nearby to climb back out and return to the blue orb (Nevron) at the start. Hand over the Wood Boards, and you’ll receive the Protecting Heal Pictos.
Bonus tip: If you choose to fight Portier after delivering the Wood Boards, you can snag extra rewards like more Colours of Lumina and a Chroma Catalyst. However, if you want the best reward possible, your best move might be to leave the Nevron untouched.
