Clair Obscur: Expedition 33: Sandfall Teases Big Updates

Sandfall Interactive isn’t slowing down after the massive success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Even though the game has already made a huge impact both critically and commercially, the studio is working on more content and features to keep the experience fresh for players.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been one of 2025’s biggest surprises. While most eyes were on heavyweights like Doom: The Dark Ages and Elden Ring: Nightreign, Clair Obscur quietly launched and blew everyone away with its deep JRPG mechanics, gorgeous art style, and innovative combat. It didn’t take long to catch fire, either—it sold an insane 3.3 million copies in just 33 days.

Developed by ex-Ubisoft talent, Clair Obscur combines traditional turn-based RPG systems with real-time elements like dodging and parrying to keep battles exciting and reactive. The result? A game that feels fresh and has players hooked.

Now, Sandfall is looking to build on that momentum. In a recent Twitter post, the studio shared that it’s working on a “wide range of future improvements” for Expedition 33. While they didn’t go too deep into specifics, they did confirm that new content and accessibility options are in the pipeline. They also mentioned plans for expanded localization, making the game more approachable for players worldwide.

Sadly, there’s no official timeline for these updates just yet. Sandfall did say that these additions are “very much on our radar,” so fans can rest easy knowing things are in motion. One much-requested feature—photo mode—was also mentioned previously, which makes sense considering how many players want to capture the game’s stunning visuals.

Interestingly, this announcement about new content might catch fans off guard, especially since the studio’s co-founders said not long ago that there weren’t any plans for future DLC. Clearly, things have evolved behind the scenes.

While some fans might be holding out hope for a full sequel, it looks like Sandfall is staying focused on making Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 the best it can be—for now, at least. As the studio’s COO, Francois Meurisse, recently explained, they plan to stick with small teams to maintain creative freedom and smart decision-making, referencing games like Half-Life 2 and Ocarina of Time as inspirations.

So, yeah—it might be a bit of a wait before we see what’s next, but it definitely sounds like it’ll be worth it.
