The moment you see “Act 1: Pharloom” flash across your screen at the beginning of Hollow Knight Silksong, you know you’re in for something special. But reaching Act 2 isn’t just about playing through the game naturally – it requires completing a specific sequence of challenging areas and boss fights that will test everything you’ve learned so far.
Act 2 represents a major shift in Silksong’s pacing and structure. While Act 1 is all about exploration and discovery in the wilds of Pharloom, Act 2 focuses on the mysterious Citadel of Song and the secrets it holds. Getting there is half the battle, but it’s absolutely worth the journey.

Your ultimate goal is reaching the Zitadelle – that imposing structure you’ve probably glimpsed from various vantage points throughout Pharloom. But the path there isn’t straightforward. You’ll need to navigate through some of Silksong’s most challenging areas, defeat multiple bosses, and survive the brutal Blasted Lands.
Here’s the basic progression you’ll need to follow:
Each step presents its own challenges, but completing this sequence unlocks an entirely new chapter of your adventure.
Your journey to Act 2 really begins in the Ferne Felder. You’ll need to use the Umhang des Vagabunden to break through the ceiling in the far top-right corner of this area to access Greymoor.
If you haven’t mastered the movement abilities yet, now’s the time. The Doppelsprung becomes incredibly useful for navigating these vertical challenges, and you’ll definitely want solid combat skills for what’s coming.
Moorwing is a significant boss encounter that serves as your gateway to the next phase. This isn’t just another enemy – it’s a skill check that ensures you’re ready for the challenges ahead. If you’re struggling with boss encounters, our boss strategy guides can help you develop the techniques you’ll need.
After defeating Moorwing, you’ll gain access to Haunted Bellhart – and trust me, the name isn’t just for atmosphere. This area feels genuinely unsettling, with a corrupted version of what was once probably a thriving settlement.
Your goal here is to reach The Weaver, whose boss room sits directly above the town. But here’s the catch – you can’t access it directly from Haunted Bellhart itself. You’ll need to approach from the top-right corner of the Shellwood zone.
This indirect routing is classic Silksong design. The game rarely lets you take the most obvious path, and learning to think three-dimensionally about area connections becomes crucial for progression.
The Weaver fight is more than just another boss encounter – it’s your ticket to the Citadel. Defeating The Weaver grants you Needolin, an ability that’s absolutely essential for entering the Citadel later.
Needolin isn’t just a combat ability – it’s essentially a musical key that unlocks specific doors and mechanisms throughout Silksong. Think of it as your VIP pass to areas that were previously inaccessible.
The fight itself requires patience and pattern recognition. The Weaver has some tricky attacks that can catch you off-guard if you’re not prepared. Take your time learning the patterns rather than trying to rush through the encounter.
Here’s where things get really intense. The Blasted Lands are arguably one of the most punishing areas in all of Silksong. We’re talking about:
I won’t sugarcoat this – the Blasted Lands will test your patience. Every mistake feels magnified when you’re losing two health chunks to environmental damage. My advice? Take your time, learn the wind patterns, and don’t be afraid to backtrack to heal at the bench when needed.
The entrance to the Blasted Lands is located to the left of the Bell Beast Station in Shellwood. Make sure you’re well-prepared before venturing in – this isn’t an area you want to explore while low on health or resources.
After surviving the Blasted Lands, you’ll finally reach the Citadel entrance. But you’re not quite there yet. Talk to the Pilgrims in the entrance hall – they’ll explain that you need to play music to break the seal on the gate.
This is where your hard-earned Needolin ability comes into play. Play your Needolin, and watch as the bells on the door respond and ring out. It’s a genuinely satisfying moment that makes all the previous struggles feel worthwhile.

After a few moments, Der letzte Richter will appear for your final Act 1 boss encounter. This fight serves as both a climax to your journey through Pharloom and a final skill check before entering the Citadel proper.
Here’s a crucial warning: The Last Judge explodes on death, and this explosion can actually kill Hornet and reset the entire fight. Stay clear once you deliver the finishing blow, or you’ll have to repeat this challenging encounter.
If you’re having trouble with combat timing and defensive techniques, mastering parieren can make boss fights much more manageable.
Once The Last Judge falls, you’ll be treated to a cutscene showing Hornet entering the Citadel along with previews of areas ahead. When you see “Act 2: Citadel of Song” appear on screen, you’ve officially made it.
Act 2 introduces new mechanics, including an enhanced Fast Travel system that works throughout Citadel areas. Don’t worry about being locked out of Act 1 content – you can still use Bell Beast Stations to return to earlier areas whenever you need to.

Before attempting this progression sequence, make sure you’ve developed solid fundamentals:
