Destiny 2 Episode Heresy Act 3: Release Date & Everything New Dropping
Alright Guardians, it’s almost time—Heresy Act 3 is dropping real soon, and it’s bringing a ton of new stuff to get hyped about. From the long-awaited Rite of the Nine activity to revamped PvP chaos and a classic Strike making a comeback, there’s a lot packed into this final act of the Heresy episode.
Just like we saw with Echoes and Revenant, Act 3 is the big wrap-up. It’s the final piece of the puzzle for the Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath storyline. And who knows—maybe Bungie throws in a teaser for what’s next with Frontiers, Destiny 2’s next big adventure.
They’ve been quiet about it (as usual), but don’t be surprised if we get a little epilogue setting up what’s to come. Let’s break it all down.

🔥 What’s New in Act 3?
☄️ The Sunless Cell Strike (Remastered)
Yup, it’s back! This fan-favorite Strike from Destiny 1’s Taken King expansion is returning, but it’s not just a copy-paste job.
While Bungie hasn’t said exactly how it’s been changed, we know it’s getting updated story bits to fit Destiny 2’s lore, and there’ll be a new final boss—so no more Aluk-Hul, the Darkblade. RIP, king.

🌌 Rite of the Nine
This is the one everyone’s talking about. Rite of the Nine is a fresh, limited-time event that challenges Guardians to run supercharged versions of existing Dungeons.
The rotation will include:
- Prophecy
- Spire of the Watcher
- Ghosts of the Deep
These Dungeons will be tougher (especially on the hardest difficulty), but the loot? Totally worth it. Expect refreshed classic weapons with new visuals and perk pools.
🚀 Heavy Metal PvP Mode
This new Crucible mode sounds like absolute chaos—in the best way.
Instead of sweaty Trials-style gameplay, Heavy Metal is going full arcade. Two teams hop into Fallen Brigs or Drake tanks and just go wild. It’s all about vehicular mayhem, and honestly, it sounds like the perfect change of pace.
🔫 Barrow-Dyad’s Final Catalysts
The last two Catalysts for the Exotic Strand SMG, Barrow-Dyad, are finally dropping in Act 3. Finish their quests and you’ll unlock:
- One For All
- Target Lock
We don’t have the full details on how you’ll get them, but if it’s anything like Act 2, expect a solid grind. Worth it, though.
💡 Final Artifact Mods
The last row of Artifact Mods is finally unlocking too. Bungie hasn’t shown what they are yet, but so far this season, Trace Rifles, Strand, and Arc have been the favorites.
Chances are, Bungie might try to balance things out by giving some love to subclasses or weapon types that haven’t been getting much action.
This is it—Heresy Act 3 is the last major chapter before Frontiers takes over later this year. Whether you’re in it for the lore, the loot, or just to blow stuff up in a tank, there’s something for everyone in this one.
Mark your calendar, squad up, and get ready to dive back in on April 1.
