Destiny 2: Map and Territory Quest Walkthrough (How to Place All 12 Anchors)

Complete the Map and Territory quest in Destiny 2's Desert Perpetual raid. Find all 12 anchor locations across the Nursery hub, Hobgoblin, Hydra, and Wyvern zones to earn the Envoy's Togs shader.

TL;DR

  • Map and Territory is the questline tied to the Desert Perpetual raid on Kepler.
  • You must complete a full raid clear first to receive the Network Sensor that starts the anchor phase.
  • There are 12 anchors scattered across the raid — in the Nursery hub, all three boss zones, and post-boss rooms.
  • Some anchors disappear if you open a boss door before collecting them — grab them during traversal, not after.
  • Completing all 12 and returning to the Simulant Ansible in the Nursery rewards the Envoy’s Togs shader.
  • Anchors can be collected in any order and across multiple runs if needed.

What Is the Map and Territory Quest?

The Map and Territory quest is a scavenger hunt inside the Desert Perpetual raid that sends Guardians to find and place anchor points throughout the raid’s environments. It is tied to the lore of Maya Sundaresh and Chioma Esi mapping the Vex Network from within.

Chioma tells you: “Maya and I are at different points within the Net. With you, we make three. Three points of triangulation — the first step towards a map. The Vex use their network for simulations, billions of them layered one atop the other. At points of similarity, they converge. We can begin to chart the VexNet itself.”

Each anchor you place also rewards a small piece of lore about the Nine and the nature of Unknown Space. They are worth reading if you enjoy the raid’s story.

The reward for completing Map and Territory is the Envoy’s Togs shader — a unique cosmetic tied exclusively to this questline. For more Desert Perpetual loot, see our Pantheon all bosses loot table and the all raid loot tables guide.

How to Start the Map and Territory Quest

You’ll need to clear the raid from start to finish. This includes all three main encounters and the final boss. Once you open your loot chest at the end and interact with the vendor, you’ll receive the Network Sensor, which you’ll use for the anchor placements.

After receiving the Network Sensor, the quest updates and prompts you to find and place 12 anchors scattered throughout the raid. These locations look like small Vex confluxes — glowing objects that stand out once you know what you’re looking for. You can collect them in any order across multiple runs. Progress saves between sessions so there is no need to find all 12 in a single run.

If you have not yet completed the Desert Perpetual raid, see our raids in order guide for context and preparation tips. The raid is available through the Portal on Kepler.

All 12 Anchor Locations in the Desert Perpetual Raid

The anchors are split across four zones: the Nursery (the central hub), the Hobgoblin zone, the Hydra zone, and the Wyvern zone. Here is every location in detail.

Nursery Hub Anchors (2 Total)

Anchor 1 — Central Tower Top, Left Side

When you first spawn into the raid, you’ll see the big purple tower in the middle island where you choose which encounter to start. Use the elevator to climb up the tower. Once you’re up there, head to the left side of this tower — where the “All are entangled” plate is — and look for a small pillar with a glowing Vex conflux on it. Jump up, interact with it, and that’s your first anchor done.

Anchor 2 — White Plains, Large Ball

From the central tower, head left out into the wide-open white plains area. Keep an eye out on the right side for a large ball sitting on the ground. The anchor is right next to this ball, easy to spot once you know where to look.

Hobgoblin Zone Anchors (Agraios, Inherent) — 3 Total

The Hobgoblin zone is accessed from the central tower. From the tower facing the middle of the island, the right path leads to Agraios and the Hobgoblin encounter. The zone is called the Inverse Function encounter.

Anchor 3 — Tunnel Halfway, Right Side

As you head toward the Hobgoblin boss encounter, you’ll go through a tunnel. About halfway through, stop and look to your right. There’s an anchor location tucked away right in the middle between the tunnel entrance and the boss door. Important tip: Do not open the boss’s door until everyone in your fireteam has grabbed this anchor, as it can disappear when the encounter starts.

Anchor 4 — Hobgoblin Boss Room Exit, Left of Door

After taking down the Vex Hobgoblin boss, head toward the exit. Before you leave the boss’s room, look to the left of the exit door. The anchor is waiting for you there. Make sure to grab this before leaving the room, as it may not be accessible once you pass the exit threshold.

Anchor 5 — Post-Boss Traversal, Hidden Alcove

After leaving the Hobgoblin boss room, follow the traversal path back toward the Nursery hub. Look along the walls of the path for a glowing Vex conflux tucked into a side alcove or recess. This anchor sits between the boss exit and the return path to the central hub — check your surroundings carefully rather than sprinting through.

Hydra Zone Anchors (Epoptes, Lord of Quanta) — 4 Total

The Hydra zone is reached from the central tower by taking the left path marked “All are entangled.” From the tower facing the middle of the island, left leads to Epoptes and the Hydra encounter. The zone is called the Clear Sight encounter.

Anchor 6 — Jumping Puzzle, First Half-Circle Platform

While making your way through the Vex Hydra boss door, you’ll reach a jumping puzzle that leads toward the boss room. Partway through this section, look ahead and you’ll see several large, curved white platforms floating in the sky — they look almost like half-circles. The anchor you’re looking for is sitting on top of the platform. Stop during the jumping section and do not rush to the boss door before collecting this.

Anchor 7 — Jumping Puzzle, Second Half-Circle Platform

From the exact same location, look ahead and you’ll see some floating half-circle platforms. Jump over to the second one — the one closest to the boss door — and you’ll find another anchor there. Two anchors are clustered in this same jumping section, so collect both before crossing into the boss arena.

Anchor 8 — Hydra Boss Room, Pre-Boss Left Side

Before triggering the Hydra boss encounter, check the left side of the boss arena entrance for a glowing Vex conflux near the wall. Like the Hobgoblin zone anchor, this one is at risk of disappearing once the encounter starts. Have your fireteam grab it before anyone activates the fight.

Anchor 9 — Hydra Boss Room, Under the Golden Tent

Once you defeat the Hydra boss, look in the back of the boss room under a golden tent. You’ll see another anchor tucked away there. This one is only accessible after the boss is defeated, so clear Epoptes first and then sweep the room before leaving.

Wyvern Zone Anchors (Iatros, Inward-Turned) — 3 Total

The Wyvern zone is reached from the central tower by taking the back path marked “Axion is axiom.” From the tower facing the middle of the island, the back path leads to Iatros and the Wyvern encounter. The zone is called the Living Rhythm encounter.

Anchor 10 — Wyvern Jumping Section, Rotating Circle

When you’re working your way through the jumping section for the Vex Wyvern boss, take the path on the right. There’s a big, rotating circle with a slit in it. Jump through the slit and look in the center for a spiral design with the anchor sitting right in the middle. This is one of the trickier anchors to reach due to the rotating obstacle — time your jump through the slit carefully and look immediately to the center once through.

Anchor 11 — Wyvern Boss Door, Right Side of Tower

Before you head into the final Wyvern boss fight, look to the right side of the boss door area. The anchor is sitting around the side of the tower. Check around the right exterior wall of the tower structure before stepping through the boss door. Do not activate the encounter before grabbing this anchor.

Anchor 12 — Behind the Wyvern Boss Loot Chest

Once you’ve defeated the Wyvern boss and the loot chest appears, walk behind the chest. Your final anchor is right there. Place the anchor down to progress the quest. This is the only post-kill anchor in the Wyvern zone, so defeat Iatros first, collect your loot, then circle behind the chest to place the last anchor.

All 12 Anchor Locations at a Glance

  • Anchor 1 — Nursery central tower top, left side near “All are entangled” plate
  • Anchor 2 — Nursery white plains area, right side next to a large ball
  • Anchor 3 — Hobgoblin zone tunnel, halfway through on the right (grab before opening boss door)
  • Anchor 4 — Hobgoblin boss room, left of the exit door after defeating boss
  • Anchor 5 — Post-Hobgoblin traversal path back to the Nursery hub
  • Anchor 6 — Hydra zone jumping puzzle, on top of the first half-circle platform
  • Anchor 7 — Hydra zone jumping puzzle, on the second half-circle platform closest to the boss door
  • Anchor 8 — Hydra boss room entrance, left side wall before triggering the encounter
  • Anchor 9 — Hydra boss room, under the golden tent at the back after defeating boss
  • Anchor 10 — Wyvern zone jumping section, center of the rotating circle after jumping through the slit
  • Anchor 11 — Wyvern boss door area, right side of the tower exterior before entering
  • Anchor 12 — Wyvern boss room, directly behind the loot chest after defeating boss

How to Complete the Quest and Claim Envoy’s Togs

After you’ve placed all 12 anchors, head back to the main area of the raid where you choose the encounter. Interact with the Simulant Ansible vendor — the Maya Sundaresh statue — and you’ll finish the quest and unlock the new Envoy’s Togs shader as a reward.

The Simulant Ansible is located in the Nursery hub, the central platform where you select encounters at the start of each run. Approach it and hold the interact button to trigger the quest completion dialogue and receive the shader.

Tips and Common Issues

  • Grab pre-boss anchors before opening any doors. Anchors 3, 8, and 11 specifically can disappear once the nearby boss encounter activates. Have your entire fireteam collect them before anyone touches the boss door.
  • You do not need to find all 12 in one run. Progress saves. If you miss an anchor, return on your next raid run and collect it. The anchor placements from previous runs carry over.
  • Check your quest tracker for progress. The Map and Territory quest in your quest log shows how many of the 12 anchors you have placed. Use this to track which areas you still need to revisit.
  • If you are stuck at 11 of 12, the most commonly missed anchor is Anchor 5 in the post-Hobgoblin traversal path, as many players sprint back to the hub without checking the walls. Run the Hobgoblin zone path again slowly and scan the entire route.
  • The bug workaround. If you finish the raid and do not receive the Network Sensor, try visiting the statue where you access weapons and armor for Spoils of Conquest. Some players have resolved the missing Network Sensor issue by interacting with this vendor. If the first anchor shows no interaction prompt, try replaying from the start of a fresh raid instance.
