EA may have shut down its Black Panther project and Cliffhanger Games, but it confirms that its Marvel collaboration—including the Iron Man game—is still very much alive.
Even though Cliffhanger Games’ Black Panther game has officially been scrapped, EA wants fans to know it’s not the end of the road for their Marvel plans.
Earlier this week, EA revealed it was pulling the plug on the Black Panther title and shutting down Cliffhanger Games, the Seattle-based studio that had been built specifically to develop it.
With the studio’s closure, many employees may now find themselves without jobs—a tough hit for the team.
But Black Panther wasn’t the only Marvel project EA had in the works. Back in 2022, EA announced that Motive Studios—the folks behind the 2023 Dead Space remake—were developing an Iron Man game.
Details have been scarce, but rumors suggest the game could feature open-world flight mechanics to really make the most of Tony Stark’s suit.
That said, the sudden cancellation of Black Panther, especially so soon after other high-profile EA cuts like Respawn’s unannounced Titanfall spin-off, has sparked some understandable doubt about EA’s Marvel lineup.
Addressing the growing concerns, EA shared a statement with IGN. EA Entertainment president Laura Miele said the partnership with Marvel is still going strong, calling it a “multi-title, long-term collaboration.”
Marvel echoed that sentiment in its own statement, saying both companies remain dedicated to creating “original storytelling with various, beloved Marvel characters” for PC and console players—starting with Motive’s Iron Man game.
EA Still Has Three Marvel Games in the Works
A Marvel rep also confirmed that there are still at least three Marvel-based games in development at EA.
They didn’t dive into specifics just yet, but the initial deal between EA and Marvel—announced alongside the Iron Man project in 2022—appears to still be on track despite recent shakeups.
Cliffhanger’s now-canceled Black Panther game was formally revealed a year later as part of that same deal.
This cancellation is part of a broader shift at EA, which has reportedly been narrowing its focus to major franchises like Battlefield and The Sims. Meanwhile, concept art from the abandoned Black Panther game has surfaced online, offering fans a glimpse at what could’ve been in terms of story and design.
As for T’Challa’s world, the Black Panther legacy will live on in other ways. Gamers will be able to play as the Azzuri version of the hero in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, which is expected to launch next year.
