Learn how to unlock the mysterious Stage door in Choral Chambers and access the Trobbio boss fight in Hollow Knight Silksong. Complete walkthrough with map locations.
That locked door in Choral Chambers leads to The Stage and the theatrical boss Trobbio. You can’t reach the lever from the Choral Chambers side – you need to go the long way around through the Bóvedas susurrantes. Route: Cogwork Dancers arena → Cogwork Core → wheel-gate lever → Whispering Vaults → box puzzles → drop into The Stage. Pull the lever to unlock the door, then backtrack to Grand Bellway bench before fighting Trobbio. It’s a major detour but opens up safer access to key areas.

So you’ve spotted that tantalizing locked door in the Choral Chambers, right? The one with the golden lever mocking you from the other side, just out of reach. Yeah, I spent way too long staring at that thing wondering how to get through. Turns out, this isn’t just any random locked door – it’s the entrance to one of Silksong’s more memorable boss encounters.
The Stage door is basically Silksong’s way of testing your commitment. Sure, you could ignore it and come back later, but where’s the fun in that? Plus, unlocking it opens up some genuinely useful shortcuts for later exploration.
The Stage is home to Trobbio, a theatrical boss who takes his craft very seriously. Reading the sign next to the door gives you a taste of his dramatic personality – he wants to “rouse the soul of this one great land” through performance. It’s equal parts charming and slightly unhinged, which perfectly captures the Hollow Knight vibe.
But this isn’t just about fighting a dramatic bug. Beating Trobbio gives you much safer access to the Bóvedas susurrantes and the upper Subsuelo. The Grand Bellway bench is practically right below the boss room, making it an ideal respawn point for exploring those dangerous areas.
Here’s the thing that initially frustrated me – you can see the lever, you know what you need to do, but Hornet just can’t reach it from the Choral Chambers side. It’s like looking at the solution to a puzzle but being told you need to solve five other puzzles first.
This is classic Metroidvania design: showing you a goal early to create anticipation, then making you work for it. The door serves as a constant reminder that there’s more to explore, more abilities to gain, more areas to unlock.

Time for a journey. This isn’t a quick detour – it’s a proper expedition through some of Silksong’s more challenging areas. Make sure you’re prepared with healing items and a solid combat build before starting.
Head back to where you fought the Bailarines de engranajes. Those three ancient statues are now your landmark – they mark the entrance to the Núcleo del trabajo dentado below.
This mechanical nightmare is all spinning gears and precise platforming. If you haven’t unlocked the shortcut yet, you’re in for a treat – you’ll need to drop all the way down, then work your way around the bottom of the central wall to reach the right side.
Consejo profesional: Take your time here. The gears have specific timing patterns, and rushing will just get you knocked into spikes. Learn the rhythm of each section.
Keep heading right, pogo-jumping across more gears until you reach a room with a lever. This controls the massive wheel-gate that connects the upper Choral Chambers to the Bellway below. Hit it to rotate the gate horizontal – you’ll need this pathway later.
Continue right into the Bóvedas susurrantes. This area immediately presents you with box puzzles – attack the boxes to push them along background tracks. It’s like playing 3D chess while bugs try to kill you.
The main Whispering Vaults room is enormous and maze-like. Your destination is an exit on the left side, about two-thirds down. Check our Whispering Vaults map guide for detailed navigation.
Enemy warning: This area is packed with flame-tossers, armored giants, and rapid slashers. Don’t try to fight everything – sometimes the smart play is to run past and focus on the box puzzles.
Once you find that left exit, continue left and drop down into the upper layer of The Stage. You can actually see the boss arena below as you move through this section – it builds anticipation nicely.
At the end of the hallway, drop down near the door. Here’s the golden lever you’ve been seeking all this time!
Stop right here. Do not enter the boss fight yet. This is crucial: hit the lever to unlock the Stage door, then backtrack all the way to the Grand Bellway bench and sit on it.
Why this matters: if you die to Trobbio and your last save was somewhere in the Cogwork Core or Whispering Vaults, you’ll have to make that entire journey again. The Grand Bellway bench is right below The Stage, making it the perfect respawn point.
I learned this the hard way after dying to Trobbio and having to spend 15 minutes just getting back to the fight. Don’t repeat my mistake.

The Stage door quest perfectly encapsulates what makes Silksong’s world design so compelling. It’s not just about unlocking a boss fight – it’s about understanding how all these areas connect, learning the optimal routes through challenging terrain, and earning your access to new content.
Trobbio himself is a delightfully theatrical encounter that feels earned after the journey required to reach him. The dramatic flair, the starry backdrop, the passionate monologue – it all comes together to create a memorable boss fight that justifies the effort.
My advice? Don’t rush through this sequence. Take time to appreciate the mechanical complexity of the Cogwork Core, puzzle through the Whispering Vaults methodically, and savor that moment when you finally pull the lever. It’s one of those classic Metroidvania “aha!” moments that stays with you.
Now get out there and show Trobbio what real drama looks like!
