Fallout Season 2 Brings Fans Back to New Vegas… But There’s a Weird Dinky the Dinosaur Retcon

We’re only a few months out from Fallout Season 2, and fans already have their magnifying glasses out, spotting little details about the show’s jump to New Vegas. And while the adaptation looks like it’s pouring a ton of love into recreating one of Fallout’s most iconic settings, players noticed something a little funny…

Yep — Dinky the Dinosaur, Novac’s beloved roadside landmark, has been flipped around.

The Return of New Vegas in Fallout’s Second Season

It still feels kind of wild that we’re getting Fallout Season 2 so quickly after the first one — considering the debut only dropped last year. This time, Lucy and the crew are heading into the Mojave, one of the franchise’s most fan-favorite locations.

From the footage shown during Gamescom 2025, the showrunners clearly went hard on details: neon-lit streets, desert skies, and familiar landmarks from Fallout: New Vegas. But eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but notice one odd wrinkle in the wasteland’s geography.

Dinky the Dinosaur: Flipped in the Wrong Direction

If you’ve played Fallout: New Vegas, then you know Dinky. He’s the massive green dino statue propped up outside Novac — equal parts tourist attraction and makeshift sniper’s nest. In the game, Dinky faces outward, overlooking the wasteland so sharpshooters can line up shots on anything coming toward town.

But in Fallout Season 2’s footage and promo poster, Dinky isn’t watching the wasteland… he’s facing the town itself. Reddit users quickly picked up on this swap, joking about the “backwards Dinky retcon.”

One fan on the Fallout subreddit summed it up:

“One of the teaser images from inside of Dinky’s mouth shows Dinky facing north towards Vegas rather than east. Though it was likely just because it looked cooler for the teaser.”

In other words, don’t grab your pitchforks yet — it’s probably nothing more than a creative angle for cinematography.

Fan Reactions: Chill About the Change

Surprisingly, Fallout fans aren’t too riled up about this tweak. Instead of the usual internet outrage, the general vibe has been more: lol, that’s odd, but whatever.

It’s the kind of small change that gets lore purists scratching their heads, but it doesn’t break New Vegas authenticity in a major way. In fact, for most players, it’s just a funny Easter egg in how a video game landmark got adapted for live action TV.

Final Take: New Vegas Feels Right, Even with a Backwards Dino

Sure, Dinky the Dinosaur may be facing the wrong way, but honestly? It doesn’t seem like anyone minds. Fans are just excited to see New Vegas fully realized on-screen — from neon-filled strip shots to iconic landmarks popping up throughout Lucy’s journey.

If Season 1 proved Fallout could become one of the best game-to-TV adaptations ever, Season 2 looks ready to take fans through the Mojave with equal detail (and a little creative license).

Just… don’t be surprised when you notice Dinky’s head isn’t where you remembered it.
