Learn how to farm iron and materials early in Blades of Fire to craft powerful weapons. Unlock the Longspear and Claymore, and dominate enemies with forged steel.
How to Farm Iron and Craft Stronger Weapons Early in Blades of Fire
Unlike typical RPGs, Blades of Fire skips the classic leveling system. Instead, you’ll boost Aran’s stamina and health using runes — but his real power? That comes from the weapons you forge.
To get the best weapons, you’ll need loads of iron and other materials to create advanced steel. Thankfully, you can start farming key resources early in the game and build stronger gear long before you face tougher enemies. Here’s where to start.
Unlock the Longspear — Your Early Game Farming MVP

If you’re looking to gear up fast, your first goal should be unlocking the Longspear. Here’s why:
- Spearmen in Besacarr Hamlet are loaded with armor and high-value drops like:
- Iron
- Coal
- Petrified Tips
- Accursed Flesh
- Amber Fairie Wings
- Iron
- Taking out ten Spearmen with Adso nearby unlocks the Longspear Forge Scroll, which lets you craft one of the best early farming weapons.
⚠️ Important: Make sure Adso is with you when you fight — without him recording your kills, the Forge Scroll won’t unlock.
Where to Find the Spearmen
- Fast travel to the Dry Riverbed Anvil.
- Head west toward the Crimson Rift gate.
- You’ll find a cluster of Spearmen there.
- Use the Hyssop to land quick headshots — their helmets leave them exposed.
- Rest at the Anvil and repeat until the Longspear scroll is unlocked.
Once unlocked, use your best steel for forging. The Longspear’s slashing attacks make farming a breeze.
Wipe Out the Undead Putrids in The Hollow Plain

With your new Longspear, it’s time to head south to The Hollow Plain, where the real farming begins. The Undead Putrids carry tons of iron and coal, and go down with just one or two hits from the spear. It’s quick, efficient, and barely drains your stamina.
- Each Putrid can drop up to 100 iron and 300 coal.
- Kill 60 of them to unlock the Claymore Forge Scroll, one of the best heavy weapons in the game.
- Fast, chain attacks with the Longspear will help you clear groups without getting overwhelmed.
🛡 Watch out for:
- Putrid Claymore swings — they deal heavy damage.
- Marauders — they use invisibility to ambush you but drop good materials when defeated.
Once you clear the area, rest at the Kar-Lethel Wall Anvil and reset the zone to farm it again.
Bonus Tip: Smash Everything
Seriously — break everything. Barrels, crates, pots, tables — if it looks destructible, smash it. These random breakables often drop extra iron, coal, and wood, which are super useful for forging weapons at the Forge of the Gods.
Weapon Unlock Guide
Weapon | How to Unlock |
Longspear | Kill 10 Spearmen (with Adso) |
Claymore | Kill 60 Undead Putrids |
The earlier you start farming, the faster you can power up Aran with epic weapons that make later battles a whole lot easier. So grab your spear, hit the forge, and start collecting that sacred steel.
