God of War Remasters Could Be Announced Soon

A well-known insider has claimed that the long-rumored God of War remasters could finally be announced next month. With the franchise celebrating its 20th anniversary in March 2025, developer Santa Monica Studio might have a big surprise in store for fans.

What’s the Deal With These Remasters?

Rumors about a remastered collection of the classic Greek-era God of War games first popped up last year. Some believed the announcement would happen at The Game Awards 2024, but that didn’t happen. Then, speculation pointed to the February 2025 State of Play, but that also didn’t pan out.

With no official word, fans started to lose hope—some even thought the classic games would just be added to the PS Plus Premium catalog instead of getting full remasters.

New Hope for an Announcement

Industry insider Jeff Grubb recently posted on BlueSky that the previous rumors were just a bit early, and that the God of War remaster project is still happening. He hinted that it could be announced around the same time as the 20th anniversary exhibition at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California.

The exhibition runs from March 15 to March 23, which means we could be less than a month away from an official reveal.

What Could the Remaster Include?

If Santa Monica Studio is indeed working on a remastered collection, it’s unclear which games will be included. The best-case scenario? All six Greek-era games:

God of War (2005)
God of War 2 (2007)
God of War 3 (2010)
Chains of Olympus (2008, PSP)
Ghost of Sparta (2010, PSP)
God of War: Ascension (2013, prequel)

There’s also a chance that only the first game gets remastered, while the others could be added to PS Plus Premium instead.

A Return to Greece?

Another exciting rumor from insider Tom Henderson suggests that the next God of War game might bring Kratos back to Greece—and feature a younger version of him. If that’s true, it would make sense for Sony to remaster the older games to get new and returning players up to speed.

For now, we wait. But if Jeff Grubb is right, we won’t have to wait long. Whether it’s a full remastered collection or just one game, fans of the classic Greek-era God of War might finally have something to look forward to!
