GTA Online Finally Lets You Buy Mansions (And Michael’s Back!)
GTA Online’s Winter update drops Dec 10 with mansions in Tongva Hills, Richman & Vinewood, plus Michael’s return. Get customizable estates, new missions & vehicles.
The wait is over. GTA Online’s Winter update is dropping December 10, and it’s bringing two things players have been begging for: luxury mansions you can actually own and the return of Michael from GTA V’s story mode.
What’s Coming in A Safehouse in the Hills Update
Rockstar confirmed the release date on X (formerly Twitter), and honestly? This might be the biggest seasonal drop yet. Here’s what you need to know.
You Can Finally Own a Mansion
For the first time ever in GTA Online, you’ll be able to purchase high-end estates in three premium locations:
- Tongva Hills
- Richman
- Vinewood area
These aren’t just basic safehouses. We’re talking full-on luxury properties designed to show off your wealth and power.

What Your Mansion Can Include
The customization options are wild. Here’s what you can add to your estate:
Entertainment & Lifestyle Features:
- Swimming pools
- Yoga spaces
- Hot tubs
- Private salon
- Arcade rooms
Practical Features:
- Multiple garages and driveways
- Helipads
- Kennels for pets
- Gym equipment
- Armories for weapons
- Vehicle workshops for upgrades
- Car podiums to showcase your rides
Business Features:
- Production boosts for existing businesses
- Private security team
- AI Concierge with three personality options
Pro tip: Every room is customizable, so you can create whatever vibe you want—whether that’s modern luxury or classic mob boss aesthetic.
Host Parties in Your Mansion
Here’s where it gets fun: You can actually host parties and invite friends (or strangers) into your estate. Your security team keeps things under control while guests explore your property. It’s basically flexing, but make it interactive.
Michael Returns (And He’s Older Now)
The December 6 trailer showed Michael—noticeably aged since GTA V’s campaign—directly interacting with your character. This is huge for fans who’ve been waiting to see what happened to him after the story mode ended.
New Missions & Mission Creator Tool
The update brings fresh missions that don’t require owning a mansion to play. But here’s the game-changer: Rockstar is introducing a comprehensive Mission Creator feature.
What this means: You’ll be able to design and publish your own missions using advanced game mechanics, custom objectives, placeable actors, and more. Think of it as user-generated content finally coming to GTA Online in a big way.
New Vehicles & Features
While the complete vehicle list hasn’t dropped yet, here’s what’s confirmed:
Coming to All Players:
- More Hao’s Special Works compatible cars
- Missile Lock-On compatibility for additional vehicles and aircraft
- New Law Enforcement vehicles
GTA+ Member Exclusives:
- Early access to the Vapid FMJ MK V
- Updated Vinewood Club App for remote business management
When Can You Play?
Release Date: December 10
Mark your calendars. The Safehouse in the Hills update is almost here, and with mansions, Michael’s comeback, and all these new features, it’s shaping up to be one of the most substantial GTA Online updates in years.
