Wondering if the Sample Extricator booster in Helldivers 2 is worth it? Here’s everything you need to know about how it works and when it’s actually useful.

Is the Sample Extricator Booster Worth Using in Helldivers 2?

The Borderline Justice Warbond in Helldivers 2 isn’t just about slinging lead in cowboy hats—it also includes a few tactical tools, like the Sample Extricator, a booster aimed at helping players gather samples more efficiently. And since samples are essential for upgrading your Super Destroyer and progressing your account, it sounds like a no-brainer, right? Well… not exactly.

Let’s break down what Sample Extricator actually does and whether or not it’s worth a spot in your booster loadout.

What Does Sample Extricator Do?

The effect is simple:
When one squad member equips Sample Extricator, every large enemy killed during the mission has a small chance to drop a Common Sample. The kicker? It lets your squad exceed the mission’s normal sample cap, up to 10 extra Common Samples from enemy drops.

This includes big baddies like Bile Titans, Factory Striders, and other heavy units. The idea is to let you snag extra samples just by doing what Helldivers do best—killing.

When Sample Extricator Works

Sample Extricator is situationally useful, especially if:

  • You’re trying to quickly farm Common Samples for upgrades.
  • You’re running missions on Difficulty 6 or lower, where combat is manageable and you can actually retrieve drops.
  • You hate scouring maps for every sample and would rather just fight your way to resources.

In casual farming runs, this booster is a convenient, low-effort way to pad your Common Sample stash.

When It’s Not Worth It

As tempting as it sounds, Sample Extricator really struggles on higher difficulties. Here’s why:

1. Too Risky to Collect

On Difficulty 7 and up, heavy enemies often die in areas swarming with smaller mobs, or in locations too far to safely reach. By the time you get there, you’re probably already knee-deep in a retreat.

2. Mobility Is Key

High-difficulty missions demand that you stay on the move. Lingering to pick up a sample can easily get you killed—or worse, get your squad wiped.

3. Better Boosters Exist

In harder missions, you’ll get more value from boosters like:

  • Stamina or health upgrades
  • Rifle turret Resupply pods
  • Orbital cooldown reductions

These give you direct, consistent advantages that actually help you survive, not just farm.

4. Extraction Isn’t Guaranteed

Even if you manage to collect those bonus samples, extracting with them intact is another beast entirely. Sometimes, you’ll just have to leave them behind.

Should You Use It?

If you’re running lower-difficulty missions (D6 and below) just to farm Common Samples, Sample Extricator is a solid utility booster that rewards combat-heavy playstyles.

But if you’re diving into harder content, it’s not worth the slot. Other boosters will do more to keep you alive—and let’s be honest, you can’t collect anything if you’re dead.

✅ Good for casual sample farming on lower difficulties
Not helpful in tougher missions where survivability matters more
💡 Pick it when you want more samples, not when you want to win
