How Glory Kills Work in DOOM: The Dark Ages – Glory Strikes Explained

Glory Kills are still in DOOM: The Dark Ages, just harder to trigger. Here’s how to perform Glory Strikes and the rare Glory Kill animations you can unlock during combat.
If you’ve been slicing and smashing your way through DOOM: The Dark Ages and wondering, “Where the hell are the Glory Kills?”—you’re not alone. While they’re not front and center like in DOOM (2016) or DOOM Eternal, Glory Kills do still exist, just in a much more subtle and rare form.
The new system prioritizes Glory Strikes, a revamped mechanic that gives finishing moves a more tactical and brutal twist. But with the right conditions (and a little flair), you can still trigger those iconic finishing animations.
⚔️ How to Trigger Glory Strikes
Glory Strikes are the new standard for finishing enemies in DOOM: The Dark Ages. Here’s how they work:
- When you deal enough damage to a non-fodder enemy, it becomes Dazed—you’ll know because it glows with a purple aura.
- While it’s Dazed, a prompt appears above the enemy.
- Press the melee input (default key/button) to rush toward the target and hit it with a cinematic melee blow.

🔹 What Glory Strikes Actually Do:
- Don’t always kill the enemy instantly, especially stronger ones.
- Usually stagger or disable enemy attacks.
- Speed up your melee attacks for a short time afterward—perfect for finishing the job up close.
These are not just normal melee attacks—you must strike a Dazed enemy when prompted to perform a Glory Strike.
💥 Are Glory Kills Still in the Game?
Yes! But they’re a lot rarer—and more context-sensitive than before.
Unlike the previous games where enemies routinely burst into choreographed giblets, DOOM: The Dark Ages keeps Glory Kills more subtle and situational. They trigger during some Glory Strikes, but not all. You’ll need to meet some hidden conditions to increase the chance of seeing one.
🧠 How to Trigger Glory Kill Animations
To increase your odds of getting a true Glory Kill-style finisher:
- Jump before performing a Glory Strike.
- Aim from above or while moving toward the enemy.
- Target enemies that are Dazed with the Glory Strike prompt active.
✨ Known Glory Kill Animations:
- Curb Stomp Finisher – Doom Slayer stomps a demon’s head in.
- Triggered by jumping onto a Dazed enemy and using a Glory Strike.
- Triggered by jumping onto a Dazed enemy and using a Glory Strike.
- Saw Shield Execution – Slayer hurls the Saw Shield, cleaving the demon in half.
- Seen from both the ground and midair, often while moving forward.
- Seen from both the ground and midair, often while moving forward.
These seem to trigger more often when you’re in motion—especially midair. So if you haven’t seen any yet, try jumping before every Glory Strike!
🧟♂️ Boss & Mini-Boss Glory Kills
Major enemies like Demonic Essence bosses and mini-bosses always come with unique Glory Kill-style animations when defeated. These finishers double as essence absorption scenes and usually mark the end of intense encounters.
So even though you’re not seeing dozens of cinematic kills per battle, those big moments still hit just as hard—literally.
🩸 Final Tip
Want more Glory Kills? Keep moving. Jump before every Glory Strike. And don’t forget—this isn’t DOOM Eternal, but the glory still lives on… you just have to earn it.
