How to Beat Grosse Tete in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Tips, Location & Rewards

Struggling with Grosse Tete in Expedition 33? Here’s how to survive its deadly bounces, deal massive damage, break its defenses, and claim awesome rewards.
There are a ton of bosses scattered around The Continent in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, making the open-world adventure both thrilling and tough—especially if you’re on the hunt for new Pictos or looking to test your strength.
One optional boss that can definitely give you a run for your money is a Nevron called Grosse Tete. This enemy may only have one attack, but it can go on forever if you don’t keep your reflexes sharp.
Grosse Tete’s Two Defeat Methods
You’ve got two solid ways to take down Grosse Tete:
- Survive its attacks until it self-destructs – After 20+ bounces, it’ll blow up on its own.
- Bring its massive HP down to zero – Not easy, considering it has around 2 million HP.
If you’re going for the damage route, it’s best to do this after defeating the Paintress and unlocking the Painted Power Pictos, which lets you deal more than 9999 damage—a game-changer for this fight.

Highly Recommended: Bring Monoco
Make sure Monoco is in your party. Not only does he help in battle, but you’ll also unlock a new Monoco skill after the fight.
Grosse Tete Rewards
Beating this bouncy menace will net you:
- Resplendent Chroma Catalyst – Used to upgrade weapons.
- Warming Up Pictos – A useful boost for your team.
Grosse Tete’s Fight Breakdown
Grosse Tete has one attack: bouncing into your whole team over and over again. At first, it bounces just twice, but as the fight drags on, the number and speed of bounces ramp up hard.
Since it’s just one repetitive move, it becomes easier to time your Dodges or Parries. If you can endure the bouncing long enough, Grosse Tete will explode—and that’s a win.

Brute Forcing Grosse Tete
Prefer a more aggressive approach? Here’s what you need to know:
- Grosse Tete is weak to Ice and Dark elements.
- It fights solo, so focus on single-target attacks.
- Its attack hits everyone, so nailing your Parries early on can open up strong counterplay.
Want to speed up the fight? Use Slow to reduce Grosse Tete’s turns and Rush to get more actions from your team. Buff with Powerful and debuff with Defenceless to hit harder and end the fight faster.
Use Break Mechanics for an Edge
Another trick to beating Grosse Tete faster is breaking its defenses:
- Fill its yellow break bar (under the HP bar).
- Use a skill with the Can Break tag to stun the boss.
- Once stunned, it’s extra vulnerable for one turn.
Not sure where to start? Use Monoco’s Ramasseur Bonk—it’s a great breaking tool. Lune also has good skills for break-heavy builds.
To push break potential even further, stack Pictos like:
- Staggering Attack
- Breaker
- Breaking Attack
Then pair those with:
- Combo Attack I
- Energising Attack I
- Breaking Shots
Where to Find Grosse Tete in Expedition 33
You’ll find Grosse Tete southeast of the snowy area with Monoco’s Station, the Carousel, and Frozen Hearts. Look for the orange zone near the Coastal Cave—Grosse Tete is guarding the cave entrance.
