Struggling with the Troll in Blades of Fire? Here’s how to find it, forge the right weapon, and slay this early-game miniboss with strategy and precision.

How to Slay the Troll in Besacarr Hamlet – Blades of Fire Guide

Blades of Fire doesn’t hold your hand — even basic enemies like the Queen’s Hounds can shred Aran’s health bar in seconds. But one of the most terrifying threats early in the game is the massive Troll wandering Besacarr Hamlet.

If you’ve already tried taking it on with your starter sword or Warhammer, you probably noticed you’re barely scratching it — and that’s if you survive long enough to land a hit. Here’s everything you need to know about where to find the Troll, how to forge the right weapon, and exactly how to kill it. Also check all Sensechal locations in Bescarr Hamlet

🗺️ Where to Find the Troll

Blades of Fire Location of the Troll

You’ll first encounter the Troll trapped in a cart by the Queen’s Hounds near the gate in western Besacarr Hamlet. Once it breaks free, it’ll immediately target Aran. If you escape, the Troll begins patrolling the area, sniffing for enemies — and yes, it will chase you if it senses you.

If you’re not ready to face it, keep your distance. While it roams, it’ll kill other enemies and smash environmental objects, making it easier for you to loot wood, iron, and more.

🛠 How to Forge the Longspear — The Troll Killer

Unlock the Longspear Blades of Fire Gate Location in Bessacar Hamlet

Your starter weapons won’t cut it (literally). The Longspear is the key to bringing this beast down.

Step 1: Kill 5 Spearmen (With Adso Nearby)

You must kill five spearmen to unlock the Longspear Forge Scroll, and Adso has to be nearby to record the kills — otherwise, they won’t count.

Where to Find Spearmen:

  • Look west of Besacarr Hamlet, near the gate and lever.
  • Spearmen are fast, have long range, and can two-hit kill Aran.
  • Use dodges, blocks, and quick counters to handle them. Avoid heavy attacks if surrounded.

💡 Tip: Break every barrel, crate, and pot while you’re out there — you’ll need iron and wood to forge your weapon.

Step 2: Craft the Longspear

Once you’ve got the scroll, rest at an Anvil and return to the Forge of the Gods.

  • Select the longest possible spear.
  • Focus on maximum damage output.
  • Don’t worry too much about weight or stamina drain — you want one-hit impact.

Try to get a 4- or 5-star rating by nailing the hammering minigame and using high-quality materials.

⚔️ How to Defeat the Troll

Now that you’ve got your Longspear, it’s Troll-hunting time. Head back to the area near the gate where it broke loose. If you’re using a controller, you’ll feel the ground shake and hear its heavy sniffing as it approaches.

Here’s the full strategy:

🧠 Troll Mechanics:

  • Two health bars — yellow and red.
  • Immune to most light or stab attacksspear swings work best.
  • Will regenerate the yellow bar if not finished fast enough.

🔥 Combat Tips:

  • Fight in open areas — small spaces = certain death.
  • Use the swinging stance, not stabbing.
  • Dodge its attacks — blocking or parrying is mostly ineffective.
  • Use heavy attacks (hold attack button) after it finishes a move. There’s usually a brief pause.
  • Watch out for projectile vomit and excrement. Side-dodge to avoid them.

🪓 Finishing the Job:

  • Once the yellow bar is gone, the Troll will stagger and try to cast Petrify to heal.
  • Land a heavy attack to the head to chop it off and stop the spell.
  • The Troll keeps attacking even after decapitation.
  • Cut off its arms to slow it down, but it can still do damage.
  • Keep hitting it before it finds its head and regenerates.

💀 After the Fight

The Troll is a miniboss and doesn’t respawn. Once it’s dead, Besacarr Hamlet becomes a bit safer to explore. But there are more Trolls out there, and defeating five total unlocks a Greatsword Forge Scroll — totally worth it.

Loot is randomized, but expect some high-quality iron, petrified tips, and a ton of XP value in crafting terms.

In summary:

  • Forge the Longspear before trying anything.
  • Use swing attacks, not stabs.
  • Stay mobile, fight smart, and don’t let the Troll finish casting Petrify.

Take it down, and you’ll prove you’re ready for whatever Blades of Fire throws at you next.
