Oblivion Remastered: How to Do the Permanent Enchantment Glitch

Learn how to perform the permanent enchantment glitch in Oblivion Remastered and keep powerful magical effects active without recharging your items.
While some of the old exploits from the original release have been patched out in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, players have already uncovered a bunch of new glitches — and one of the coolest is the permanent enchantment glitch.
Normally, enchanted items drain energy over time and require constant recharging with Soul Gems or Varla Stones. But with this glitch, you can keep their effects active forever without worrying about recharges.
It’s a simple trick, works on both PC and consoles, and is basically a neat variation of the classic duplication glitch.
Here’s exactly how to pull it off.

How to Do the Permanent Enchantment Glitch in Oblivion Remastered
Step-by-Step Guide
- Pick Your Enchanted Item
Choose an enchanted piece of gear (like a ring, amulet, or armor) that has an active effect you want to keep permanently. - Find an Empty Container
Go to any empty chest, crate, or similar container. - Prepare a Stackable Item
Have a large stack of items like arrows or lockpicks in your inventory.
(If you don’t have enough, use the duplication glitch to create more.) - Drag and Drop the Stack
- On PC: Drag the stack over the enchanted item inside the container.
- On Console: Press R1 (or RB) + X (or A) at the same time to “drop” the stack onto the enchanted item.
- On PC: Drag the stack over the enchanted item inside the container.
- Duplicate the Enchanted Item
If done correctly, a big stack of the enchanted item will appear in your inventory. - Equip One Copy
Equip one of the duplicated enchanted items. - Place the Stack Back Into the Container
Place the big stack of arrows or lockpicks back into the container.
(It might not actually move — that’s normal. This step is crucial.) - Move the Stack of Duplicated Enchanted Items
Now transfer all the duplicated enchanted items into the container.
This action will remove all copies from your inventory, including the equipped one.

What Happens After the Glitch?
Even though the enchanted item is now gone, its effects will remain active — permanently.
✅ To double-check:
- Open the Magic Menu.
- Go to Active Effects.
- You should still see the enchantments listed, even without having the gear equipped.
The enchantments won’t drain or expire anymore, and you won’t need to recharge anything ever again.
Important Notes
- You can stack multiple enchantments by repeating the glitch with different items.
- This trick works best with enchantments like Fortify Strength, Fortify Speed, Reflect Damage, or Shield.
- Be careful about which effects you choose to lock in — some buffs can’t be easily removed without console commands or restarting the game.
- If you duplicate and glitch too many powerful enchantments, you might become absurdly overpowered (which, let’s be honest, is half the fun).
If you’re tired of constantly babysitting your magic items or just want to stack up buffs and crush your enemies with ease, the permanent enchantment glitch is a must-try in Oblivion Remastered. 🧙♂️⚡
Just remember — once you glitch it, there’s no going back (unless you manually remove effects via mods or console commands). So choose your enchantments wisely!
