Fixing the Broken Gong in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has a lot of branching paths in its main story, but every now and then, you’ll hit a key event that plays out no matter what choices you make.
One of those moments shows up in the Shadows of the Horns quest, where you’ll need to complete an old Keeper ritual by ringing a giant gong. The problem? It’s broken.
Here’s how to fix the gong, where to find the pieces, and what you need to get it repaired.
Step 1: Picking a Side (Briefly)
By the end of Shadows of the Horns, you’ll have to choose between helping Breandan or Galahad. No matter who you pick, they’ll send you to perform a ritual at the Sunken Village. That’s where the broken gong comes in.
Step 2: Where to Find the Broken Gong
Head north of Horns Keep toward the Sunken Village. You’ll see a stone gateway on a big rock just off the coast.
Swim over there, and look closely on the ground near the structure — the broken gong is lying there. It blends into the mossy stone, so take your time searching.
Once you’ve got the gong, it’s time to bring it back and get it repaired.
Step 3: Repairing the Gong (Materials Needed)
The blacksmith is your go-to for fixing the gong — but he needs materials first. Specifically, he’ll ask for 15 Ethereal Cobwebs.
You can gather these by killing Wyrd monsters (a.k.a. Wyrdspawn) that come out at night. They’re not too tough, especially if your gear is halfway decent.
How to farm Wyrd monsters:
- Wait until night (around 22:00 in-game). Use a campfire to skip time if needed.
- Head back to the Sunken Village — it’s a hotspot for Wyrdspawn.
- Defeat the phantoms and gather the cobwebs they drop.
Once you’ve got all 15, return to the blacksmith and he’ll patch up the gong for you.
Step 4: Completing the Ritual
Now that you’ve got a shiny, repaired gong, head back to the gateway in the Sunken Village. Place the gong, ring it, and watch the ritual play out in a cutscene.
From here, the main quest continues — who you sided with earlier will shape what comes next.
Bonus Tip: Stuck or Bugged Quest?
If you’re having issues progressing this part of the quest (bugs happen), you can try to brute-force your way forward. Specifically, you can attempt to extract Arthur’s Soul Fragment from Excalibur early — just be ready to guzzle a small lake’s worth of health potions. Not recommended unless you’re truly stuck.
