Crafting is a pretty essential part of surviving in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. As you push deeper into the story and face tougher enemies, your gear needs to keep up.
That means mining materials, upgrading weapons, and making sure your armor isn’t falling apart at the worst possible moment.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to get a Pickaxe and how mining works so you can start collecting valuable ores for upgrades. Also Read, Should You Take the Artifact or Ask Caradoc a Question.
How to Get a Pickaxe
You won’t be able to mine anything at the start of the game—you’ll need a Pickaxe first. There are two easy ways to get one:
🪙 Option 1: Buy One from Orlaith
- Once you reach the Horns of the South, look for the merchant Orlaith near the main gate.
- She sells a Pickaxe for 16 Coins.

🆓 Option 2: Find One for Free
- After landing on the beach post-Prologue, follow the path inland.
- At the first fork in the road, take the right path.
- You’ll eventually spot Horst, an NPC mining a collapsed statue of King Arthur.
- There’s a Pickaxe in the mining cart next to him. Just pick it up—it’s not considered stealing and Horst won’t react.
You only need one Pickaxe to start mining, so feel free to save your coins.
How to Mine Resources
Once you’ve got your Pickaxe, mining is super simple:

- Walk up to any mineable ore node.
- Interact with it — press E on PC, or X/A if using a controller.
- Hit the button three times to fully mine the node and collect your loot.
