Oblivion Remastered: How To Get the Black Hand Robes Early

Want to score the iconic Black Hand Robes early in Oblivion Remastered? Here’s how to sneak into J’Ghasta’s house in Bruma and grab this powerful Dark Brotherhood gear right after escaping the sewers.

How To Get the Black Hand Robes Early in Oblivion Remastered

The Black Hand Robes and Hood are some of the coolest—and most useful—Dark Brotherhood items in Oblivion Remastered. Normally, you get them pretty late in the faction questline… but if you’re sneaky and bold enough, there’s a way to grab them way earlier.

If you’re fresh out of the sewers and want to get your hands on some elite assassin gear without waiting for the storyline to catch up, here’s exactly how to do it.

How to get the black hand robes early

Step-by-Step: Where to Go

  1. Fast Travel to Bruma East Gate
Once you spawn in, take the first left and head south down the narrow street.
  2. Look for J’Ghasta’s House
You’ll pass a small group of homes on your left. When you reach the second house, check the nameplate:
    • If it says “J’Ghasta’s House”, you’re in the right place.
  3. Lockpick the Front Door
This is your entry point. The house is locked, so you’ll need to pick the lock to get inside. Make sure you’re not being watched—breaking and entering is still very much illegal.

️ How to Open the Locked Keg (And What’s Inside)

  1. Once inside, head downstairs to the basement.
  2. In the corner, you’ll find a Locked Keg—this is where the good stuff’s hiding.
    • Lock difficulty: Very Hard
    • You’ll need solid Security skill or a lot of lockpicks and patience.

If the tumbler falls slowly, that’s your cue—quickly tap to set it. Don’t rush the process or you’ll burn through picks fast.

Why You Want the Black Hand Set Early

These aren’t just for looks—the Black Hand Robes and Hood come with solid enchantments that boost several stealth-related skills. Great for early-game sneaky builds or anyone rolling with a thief/assassin character.

‍♂️ What To Do After You Grab the Gear

  • Exit the house immediately—no need to overstay your welcome.
  • Fast travel somewhere else (anywhere), especially if someone spotted you.
  • Guards may try to arrest you or confiscate stolen items, so lay low or stash the robes in a safe container until things cool down.

You don’t need to be in the Dark Brotherhood to pull this off—but if you are planning to join them, this is an awesome way to get a head start with gear that normally comes way later.
