How to Keep the Boots of Springheel Jak in Oblivion Remastered

Don’t lose the Boots of Springheel Jak during “The Ultimate Heist” in Oblivion Remastered! Here’s how to survive the fall without destroying them and keep one of the game’s best acrobatic items.
How to Prevent the Boots of Springheel Jak from Being Destroyed in Oblivion Remastered
The Boots of Springheel Jak are a standout reward from the Thieves Guild questline, offering a massive +50 Acrobatics boost that not only lets you leap across rooftops but also reduces fall damage drastically. Unfortunately, during the final Thieves Guild quest, “The Ultimate Heist,” these boots are scripted to be destroyed—unless you take a few smart steps to prevent that from happening.
Here’s how to keep the Boots of Springheel Jak and finish the quest safely.
🧤 Why the Boots Are Destroyed
During the final stage of The Ultimate Heist, you’re forced to jump down a fireplace chute while escaping the Imperial Palace with the Elder Scroll. Normally, your survival is scripted through the boots cushioning the fall—but they are destroyed in the process.
However, the game only destroys the boots if they’re equipped at the time of the jump.

🪂 How to Survive the Fall Without the Boots
To keep the boots intact, you’ll need to unequip them before the jump and rely on your own stats or temporary buffs to survive the fall.
🎯 Requirements to Survive:
- Athletics Skill: 40 or higher
- Health: At least 180
- Optional Boosts:
- Fortify Health potions or wine (e.g., Surilie Brothers Wine)
- Fortify Athletics gear or spells
- Sloped ledge trick (use the angled platform below the grate to reduce fall height slightly)
- Fortify Health potions or wine (e.g., Surilie Brothers Wine)
If you’re just below the threshold, drink some health-boosting wine in the room or equip temporary enchantments to push you over.
🔮 Mage Strategy
If you’re a Mage with access to:
- Arcane University, or
- Frostcrag Spire
You can craft spells or enchant gear with:
- Fortify Health
- Fortify Athletics
This will let you reach the minimums needed to survive the jump without the boots.
🚨 Important Warning!
- Do NOT re-equip the Boots after the fall until the quest is fully completed.
- Re-equipping them before the quest is marked complete may trigger the destruction script anyway, due to how the fall-survival event is scripted in the game engine.
✅ Quick Checklist to Save the Boots
- Unequip the Boots of Springheel Jak before the chute jump.
- Boost your Health to 180+ with gear, potions, or wine.
- Make sure your Athletics is at least 40 (buff it if needed).
- Optionally, aim to land partially on the ledge to soften the fall.
- Don’t re-equip the boots until The Ultimate Heist is fully complete.
By following these steps, you’ll finish the Thieves Guild storyline and still keep one of the best mobility items in Oblivion Remastered.
