The world of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is dark, deadly, and absolutely relentless. Whether you’re running low on supplies or just need to chill out for a moment, setting up a Bonfire is the best way to take a breather.
You’ll use them to rest, level up, cook food, and even chat with ghost-King Arthur, because why not?

🔥 How to Place a Bonfire
You’ll learn how to place your first Bonfire from Caradoc during the opening section of the game (before leaving the island asylum). Here’s how to do it anytime after that:
- Open your Quick Use Wheel
- Press Q on keyboard or L1 on controller.
- Press Q on keyboard or L1 on controller.
- Look for the Bonfire icon in the upper left quadrant of the small wheel.
- Select it, then choose a flat surface to place it on.
🪵 No materials required — you can place Bonfires anywhere outside, as long as it’s not in a dungeon. They’re temporary, though, so don’t expect them to last forever.
You can place as many as you want, so don’t hesitate to drop one when things get dicey.
💡 What You Can Do at a Basic Bonfire
Even without upgrades, Bonfires are super useful. They let you:
- Rest to recover health and pass time
- Level up if you’ve earned enough experience
- Cook food
- Talk to King Arthur’s ghost for lore and story development
🕸️ How to Upgrade Bonfires with Ethereal Cobwebs
To unlock advanced features at a Bonfire, you’ll need to fuel it with 10 Ethereal Cobwebs — which are dropped by Wyrdness monsters that appear during nighttime.
Once upgraded, your Bonfire will unlock:
- 🔍 Identify: Use this to reveal Unidentified items in your inventory.
- ⚗️ Alchemy: Brew potions and buffs.
- 🗺️ Fast Travel: Instantly teleport to any unlocked Fast Travel point. Huge time-saver.
- 🛡️ Safe Resting: Prevents monster attacks while you sleep.
📌 Note:
The upgrade only applies to that specific Bonfire. Each new one you place will need another 10 Ethereal Cobwebs to be upgraded again.
But don’t worry—Cobwebs are pretty easy to farm if you’re comfortable fighting Wyrd creatures in the dark.
