Want to play Elden Ring Nightreign solo? Here’s how to switch to single-player mode, what changes when you’re alone, and tips to survive the dangers of Limveld.
Elden Ring Nightreign is designed with co-op in mind, giving you and two friends a big, dangerous map to explore. But if you’re looking for a solo challenge—or just want to try out a new character without teammates—you can totally play alone.
Playing solo in Nightreign offers a different kind of thrill: a bit tougher, a bit more methodical, but just as rewarding if you make it through.
Here’s how to start a solo expedition and what changes when you go it alone in Limveld. Also check, How Long Is an Expedition.
🎮 How to Play Solo in Elden Ring Nightreign
You can switch to solo mode anytime, whether you’re online or offline. Here’s how to do it:

- Head to the Roundtable at Roundtable Hold.
- When the Expeditions Menu opens, tab over to the Matchmaking Settings menu.
- Scroll all the way to the bottom to find “Expedition Type.”
- Choose one of the two options:
- Multiplayer – Play with a group of three
- Single Player – Play solo (great for testing out new characters too)
- Multiplayer – Play with a group of three
Once you select Single Player, you’ll be able to launch any expedition you’ve unlocked completely on your own. This setting stays active until you manually switch it back to Multiplayer.
🔄 Both modes use the same save file, so any gear, runes, or upgrades you earn solo will carry over to multiplayer—and vice versa.
Note: You can’t currently play in a two-player group—only solo or full trio.

📉 Does the Game Scale Down for Solo Play?
Yes, but only slightly. Here’s what changes—and what doesn’t:
What Changes | What Stays the Same |
Enemy health is scaled down | Enemy damage remains the same |
Merchants sell Wending Grace | The number of enemies and bosses stays the same |
Solo-focused strategy needed | No teammates to heal or revive you during fights |
So while enemies won’t hit any softer, they’ll go down faster. That makes most boss fights manageable, as long as you’re smart about your gear and upgrades.
🧪 What Is Wending Grace?
When playing solo, you’ll unlock access to Wending Grace, an item you can buy from merchants in Limveld. It’s a one-time revival item that’ll pick you back up if you go down during a boss fight.
- 🛍️ Only available in Single Player
- ⛔ Not available in Multiplayer
- 🩹 Gives you a crucial second chance when there’s no one to revive you
This item can be a literal lifesaver when you’re facing off against Nightbosses or the Nightlord without backup.
⚔️Is Solo Worth It?
If you’re looking for a bit more challenge or want to experiment with builds without worrying about dragging a team down, solo mode is 100% worth trying.
You still get all the same rewards, and it adds a layer of strategy since you have to cover all your bases yourself.
Just be prepared: some fights still involve multiple bosses at once, and yes—they’ll all still come after you.
But with smart play and the right upgrades (plus a few Wending Graces), solo runs can be just as fun—and even more rewarding.
