How to Unlock Skins in Mario Kart World

There are two main methods to unlock new costumes in the game:

1. Get Hit by a Kamek Item (During Races Only)

• Kamek orbs are purple magic projectiles with Kamek’s face on them.
  
• They appear from Item Boxes when you’re in the lower half of the race pack.
  
• When Kamek hits you, you’ll transform into either:
  
  • A new character
    
  • A costume version of your current character
    
• If this happens, you permanently unlock the new character or skin it gave you!
  

Pro Tip: You can’t find Kamek in Free Roam—only in actual races.

2. Use Dash Food Items (Works in Both Races and Free Roam)

• Dash Food works like a Dash Mushroom, but with a twist—it can randomly transform you.
  
• If you’re lucky, you’ll change into a costumed version of your current character.
  
• That skin is automatically unlocked once you transform.

• During races (look for glowing food bags near the edges of tracks)

Note: Not every character has lots of skins—non-human racers like Cow, Spike, or Goomba tend to have fewer.

1. Enter Free Roam mode
   
2. Find a Yoshi’s Diner
   
   • They always have a Dash Food spawn nearby
     
3. Pick up and use the Dash Food
   
   • You’ll get a speed boost + a chance at a new costume
     
4. Return to the same spot and wait for the Dash Food to respawn
   
5. Repeat until you unlock a skin
   
6. Switch characters once you’ve unlocked all skins for the current one
