The early game in StarRupture is pretty chill. You’re building your base, setting up production lines, and maybe fighting off the occasional Vermin that wanders too close. Your starting pistol handles things just fine.
But once you start venturing deeper into Arcadia-7 things get real. Hostile creatures start showing up in big and bigger groups, ambushing you when you’re busy collecting resources or activating Geo Scanners. That’s when you realize your pistol isn’t cutting it anymore.
Enter grenades—your first real upgrade in firepower. Problem is they’re locked behind corporation progression, and getting them requires setting up proper production chains.
Here’s exactly how to unlock grenades in StarRupture and what you need to do to reach GriffithsBlue Corporation Level 3.

The Grenades Require GriffithsBlue Corporation Level 3
The Grenades aren’t just lying around for you to craft—they’re a Level 3 reward from GriffithsBlue Corporation, the faction that specializes in combat and defense tech.
To hit Level 3, you just need to complete two commission tasks for them:
- Level 2 Task: Deliver 200 Titanium Bars
- Level 3 Task: Deliver Titanium Rods and Wolfram Wire
Both tasks requires you to set up production chains using Ore Extractors, Smelters, Fabricators, and Orbital Cargo Launchers. If you’ve been following our beginner’s guide, you should already have the basic infrastructure for this.
Let’s break down each task step-by-step.
Task 1: Delivering 200 Titanium Bars (Level 2)
This first commission is relatively straightforward since Titanium Ore is one of the most common resources near your starting area.
Production Setup
Here’s what you need to build:
- Ore Extractor – Place this on a Titanium Ore deposit
- Smelter – Connect it to the Ore Extractor via Rail
- Orbital Cargo Launcher – Connect this to the Smelter via Rail
Step-by-Step Process
Find and extract Titanium Ore. Use your Ore Extractor on any Titanium deposit. These are usually pretty close to the starting area, so you shouldn’t have to search far.
Smelt it into Titanium Bars. Make sure your Smelter has power (Solar Generator V1 works fine at this stage) and select the Titanium Bar recipe.
Set up the commission. At your Orbital Cargo Launcher, select the GriffithsBlue Corporation Level 2 task to automatically route Titanium Bars to them.
Wait for completion. As long as everything has power and your Rails are connected properly, the production line will be automatically process ore into bars and send them off. You need 200 total.
Time-Saving Tip
If you have the resources, set up multiple production lines running simultaneously. Two or three Extractor → Smelter → Launcher chains working in parallel will cut your wait time significantly.
While this is processing, you’re completely free to explore, gather resources, or work on other projects. That’s the beauty of automation in StarRupture.
Once the 200 Titanium Bars are delivered, you’ll unlock the UPP-7 Pistol (a better version of your starting weapon) and can move on to Level 3.

Task 2: Delivering Titanium Rods & Wolfram Wire (Level 3)
This task is more complex because it requires two different materials that each need their own production chains involving Fabricators.
What You Need
- Titanium Rods (refined from Titanium Bars)
- Wolfram Wire (refined from Wolfram Bars)
Both of these are processed at Fabricators, which you should have unlocked from Selenian Corporation Level 2.
Production Setup for Titanium Rods
- Ore Extractor on Titanium deposit
- Smelter to create Titanium Bars
- Fabricator to turn bars into Titanium Rods
- Orbital Cargo Launcher to send the final product
Connect everything with Rails and make sure each building has power.
At the Fabricator, select the Titanium Rod recipe. The Fabricator will automatically pull Titanium Bars from your Smelter (via Rails) and process them into Rods.

Production Setup for Wolfram Wire
This works exactly the same way just with different ore:
- Ore Extractor on Wolfram deposit
- Smelter to create Wolfram Bars
- Fabricator to turn bars into Wolfram Wire
- Orbital Cargo Launcher to send it off
At the Fabricator, select the Wolfram Wire recipe.
Important Notes
You can use the same Orbital Cargo Launcher for both materials. Just make sure the commission is set correctly to accept both Titanium Rods and Wolfram Wire for GriffithsBlue Level 3.
Wolfram deposits might be slightly farther from your starting base than Titanium. If you have followed the base location advice from our guide, you should still have decent access. Otherwise, you might need to expand your Rail network to reach Wolfram veins.
Double-check your Rail connections. A common mistake is forgetting to connect the Fabricator output to the Launcher. If materials aren’t moving, trace your Rails to find the break in the chain.
Speeding Up the Process
Just like with Task 1, running multiple production lines simultaneously speeds things up dramatically. If you’ve got the building materials and power generation to support it, set up:
- 2-3 Titanium production lines
- 2-3 Wolfram production lines
This might seem excessive, but it cuts your wait time in half or more. Plus, you’ll have extra refined materials for other projects afterward.
If you’re running low on space or materials, you can also deconstruct old structures you’re not using anymore and reclaim those resources.
Claiming Your Grenades
Once you have completed both tasks and hit Level 3 with GriffithsBlue Corporation, don’t forget to claim your reward at the Corporate Terminal.
Head to your habitat, interact with the Corporate Terminal, navigate to GriffithsBlue Corporation, and accept your Level 3 rewards. The grenade will automatically be equipped to your hotbar.
Press G to select and throw grenades in combat.
How Grenades Work in StarRupture
Grenades in StarRupture have a unique mechanic—they’re charged by killing Vermin and harvesting meteorites, not crafted from materials.
When you throw a grenade, it attracts Vermin to its location before detonating. This makes it perfect for:
- Crowd control when you’re being swarmed
- Defending Geo Scanners during activation
- Clearing out Vermin nests
- Creating breathing room when overwhelmed
The attraction mechanic is key. Don’t just throw grenades randomly—use them strategically to group enemies together for maximum damage.
Grenade Charging Tips
Kill Vermin to recharge. Every Vermin you defeat contributes to your grenade charge. The more you fight, the more grenades you can throw.
Harvest meteorites after Ruptures. Meteorites that fall during and after Rupture events also provide grenade charges when collected.
Don’t spam them. Grenades are powerful but limited. Save them for situations where you’re actually in danger, not just killing a single isolated Vermin.
Why You Should Prioritize Grenades
Combat in StarRupture gets significantly harder as you explore further from your base. Vermin start appearing in larger groups, and some of the blue volatile variants can overwhelm you quickly if you’re not prepared.
Grenades give you a reliable AoE damage option that makes these encounters manageable. They’re especially useful when:
- Activating Geo Scanners to unlock more of the map
- Exploring ruins and crashed sites with heavy enemy presence
- Defending your base during creature attacks
- Collecting resources in dangerous areas
Reaching GriffithsBlue Level 3 also unlocks the UPP-7 Pistol at Level 2, which is a solid upgrade over your starting weapon. The combat tech tree only gets better from there, with Defense Turrets at Level 6 and Defense Towers at Level 9.
Pro Tips for Efficient Progression
Set up permanent production lines. Instead of building temporary chains just for these tasks, create a permanent infrastructure. You’ll need these materials for other projects anyway, and having automated production running constantly helps with all corporation tasks.
Use Data Points as an alternative. If setting up complex production chains feels like too much work, you can deliver Data Points instead to level up corporations. Check our guide on how to farm Data Points fast for efficient methods.
Balance power generation. Multiple production lines need reliable power. Make sure you have enough Solar Generators or other power sources connected before expanding your base too much.
Organize with storage. As you’re producing materials for commissions, excess refined components will pile up. Use storage containers from Clever Robotics to organize everything. Our guide on increasing inventory size covers storage solutions in detail.
Don’t neglect other corporations. While working towards grenades, keep sending commissions to other corporations too. Moon Energy, Selenian, and Clever Robotics all have critical unlocks you’ll need.
FAQ
Can I unlock grenades without setting up production chains?
Yes, technically. You can deliver Data Points to GriffithsBlue Corporation instead of materials to level them up. However, this requires a lot of Data Points (several thousand total), so for most players, setting up the production chains is actually faster and more efficient.
How many grenades can I carry at once?
Grenades use a charge system rather than inventory slots. You don’t carry individual grenades—instead, you have a grenade charge meter that fills up as you kill Vermin and harvest meteorites. The exact capacity isn’t clearly stated, but you can typically carry enough charges for several throws before needing to recharge.
Do grenades damage my own structures?
Grenades primarily damage enemies and don’t seem to cause significant damage to your own buildings. However, you should still be careful throwing them near delicate equipment or in crowded base areas. Better safe than sorry.
What comes after grenades in the GriffithsBlue tech tree?
After unlocking grenades at Level 3, GriffithsBlue continues offering combat upgrades. Level 4 gives you the Equipment Upgrade Station for weapon mods, Level 6 unlocks Defense Turrets for base protection, and Level 9 provides Defense Towers—much stronger automated defenses. The combat tech tree is worth pursuing if you’re struggling with creature attacks.
Unlocking grenades in StarRupture requires some patience and infrastructure setup, but it’s absolutely worth it. Once you have got that explosive firepower exploring dangerous areas and defending Geo Scanners becomes way more manageable.
Focus on reaching GriffithsBlue Corporation Level 3 by setting up efficient Titanium and Wolfram production chains. Automate as much as possible so you can continue exploring while your base churns out the materials needed for commissions.
The combat difficulty ramps up significantly the further you venture into Arcadia-7. Having grenades in your arsenal before you really need them is way better than scrambling to unlock them after getting repeatedly swarmed by Vermin.
Now get those production lines running and start working toward some actual firepower. Those hostile creatures aren’t gonna blow themselves up.
