Lies of P Is Staying Single-Player (For Now), Even After That “Refreshing” Elden Ring DLC
Lies of P director Choi Ji-won recently tried the Elden Ring: Nightreign network test—and he thought it was pretty refreshing. But even though Nightreign leans into multiplayer, don’t expect Lies of P to suddenly go online. Choi’s sticking to single-player for now… but he’s not completely ruling out multiplayer for future games.
🗡️ Lies of P: Still Solo, Still Strong
If you’ve played Lies of P, you know it’s heavily inspired by FromSoftware’s Soulsborne games. And while Elden Ring is doing its multiplayer thing with Nightreign, Lies of P is staying solo with its upcoming expansion, Overture.
Choi chatted about all this during GDC, and here’s what he said:
“Our primary focus from the concept of this game was to deliver a high quality, premium action game that is single-player.”
But he also mentioned that the team is open to other ideas in the future. So yeah, no co-op or PvP just yet—but maybe down the road?

🎮 Overture = The Full Lies of P Experience
Choi sees Overture kind of like a “director’s cut,” except he calls it more of a “developer’s cut” since it’s a full team effort. According to him, the base game and Overture expansion are meant to be played together as one full experience. Stuff they couldn’t squeeze into the original? It’s going in Overture.
“We never really saw the development of Overture as a separate entity… We believe the whole thing delivers Lies of P as it was supposed to be experienced.”
The DLC will be available starting around Chapter 9 of the main game, so it blends right into the story, not just tacked on at the end. Plus, it brings in some new weapons—bows, claws, and probably more madness to mess with.
⚔️ Is It Gonna Be Harder?
If you’re wondering whether Overture is gonna crank up the difficulty like FromSoftware usually does in their DLCs—well, kind of… but not in a “you will cry” kind of way.
“We wanted to really make the content accessible and enjoyable to the veterans of the game, as well as new users.”
So yeah, it’ll challenge you, but it’s not meant to scare off newcomers either. It’s more about delivering a solid all-around experience than just punishing players for fun.
🎯 Choi’s Focus: Finding Their Own Flavor
One of the coolest things Choi said was that Lies of P isn’t trying to out-FromSoftware FromSoftware anymore. Back at Gamescom, he talked about wanting to challenge the genre directly. But now? He’s more focused on doing their own thing.
“Instead of setting a goal to make a better game than some of the games out there, we want to continue making games our fans will continue to love.”
The idea is to find their own voice in the Soulslike space—so that when people see a Round8 game, they know it’s theirs.

🔥 Lies of P Is Still Killing It
Since its release, Lies of P has sold over a million copies in under a month and is still getting a ton of love as one of the best non-FromSoftware Soulslikes. And if Overture delivers everything Choi’s hinting at—more story, better weapons, and a polished final vision—fans are gonna eat this up.
Overture drops later this summer, and while we haven’t gone hands-on yet, it’s already looking like a must-play for anyone who loved the base game.
So yeah, no co-op just yet, but that single-player magic isn’t going anywhere. And who knows? Maybe in the future, Round8 will hit us with a multiplayer Soulslike of their own. But for now, Lies of P is doing just fine on its own.
