Dragami Games is developing a sequel to Lollipop Chainsaw alongside a new anime. Here’s everything we know about the return of the undead-slaying cheerleader cult hit.
Juliet Starling Is Revving Up Again—Chainsaw Sequel and Anime Incoming
Grab your pom-poms and chainsaws—Lollipop Chainsaw is making a comeback, and it’s not just with another remaster. A full-blown sequel and an anime spin-off are officially in the works, more than a decade after the original game slashed its way to cult status in 2012.
Announced by Dragami Games, the spiritual successor to Kadokawa Games (who published the original), the new Lollipop Chainsaw project is being positioned as both a continuation and a reboot of sorts. Oh, and yes—it’s being developed “with fan feedback in mind,” which seems to include everything from tone to, uh, outfit choices.
Quick Recap: Why Lollipop Chainsaw Still Has Fans After All These Years
- Released in 2012, the game became a cult hit for its absurd, over-the-top combo of horror, cheerleading, and grindhouse comedy.
- Directed by Suda51 (No More Heroes) and partially written by James Gunn, back before he was helming the entire DCU.
- Starred Juliet Starling, a chainsaw-wielding high school cheerleader taking down zombies with gymnastic flair and ridiculous one-liners.
- It sold 1.5 million units, with the vast majority from the original release.
The recent remaster, Lollipop Chainsaw RePop, got a mixed response—it ditched the licensed music, missed its original release window, and skipped the planned remake path in favor of a more faithful remaster after fan pushback.
What We Know About the Sequel
The new game is still untitled, but here’s what’s been confirmed:
- Development is active under Dragami Games, in partnership with Nada Holdings
- It aims to “preserve and build upon” the appeal of the original
- Key staff from the original are involved (though no word on Suda51 or James Gunn)
- The devs are focused on maintaining the game’s “distinctive tone” and dark humor
- They’re not toning things down for DEI, according to a pointed line in the press release (interpret that however you will)
And yes, that last bit has already sparked some heated discussion. The statement says:
“The new title aims to recreate a world rich in dark humor… without imposing excessive creative restrictions in the name of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).”
Not exactly the most gracefully worded declaration—but it sounds like fans of the original’s wild tone and risque aesthetics won’t be left in the cold.
The Anime Spin-Off Is Also on the Way
While no details have been given yet, Dragami confirmed that an anime adaptation of Lollipop Chainsaw is in development. No animation studio, cast, or air date has been revealed, but if it sticks to the game’s visual identity and chaotic vibe, it’s likely to be one of the most unhinged anime premieres of the year it drops.
When’s It Coming Out?
No release window for the sequel or the anime has been announced yet. If development just recently kicked off and they’re still announcing staffing, don’t expect it before late 2025 or 2026. But hey, at least it’s real.
Juliet’s Chainsaw Isn’t Rusty Yet
Whether you loved the original’s wild humor or just remember it as “that game where your boyfriend’s head hangs off your belt,” Lollipop Chainsaw has always been about embracing the absurd. The sequel seems poised to continue that—fanservice, gore, cheerleading and all.
It might not be for everyone, but it never was. And that’s kind of the point.
