Marvel Rivals Has a Tank Problem—Here Is How to Fix It?
Nobody wants to run two Vanguards, and it’s costing Marvel Rivals players win after win. But don’t worry—there is an easy fix! All we need is the right hero to convince people that tanking isn’t just necessary—it’s awesome.
Why Nobody Wants to The Play Vanguard
Look, I get it. I main Strategist, so I know how frustrating it can be when people dodge anything that isn’t DPS or Duelist. And when things go south? Healers and tanks get blamed instantly.
Picture this: Black Widow is out there clutching two kills, begging for heals, while Wolverine slices through everything in sight—and somehow, she’s the one at fault when she dies.
Vanguards have it just as bad. They’re expected to soak up damage, protect teammates, and make smart plays—all while people criticize them for not carrying the match. No wonder players are skipping the role altogether!
But here’s the problem: when nobody picks Vanguards, teams fall apart.

Does It Really Matters? (Spoiler: Yes, It Does)
A balanced 2-2-2 team (2 Tanks, 2 DPS, 2 Support) is ideal, but most players prefer 1-3-2 (1 Tank, 3 DPS, 2 Support). And when that team runs into an enemy squad running two tanks? Game over.
A well-oiled team with two powerful Vanguards is a nightmare to deal with. The tanks absorb damage, the healers keep them alive, and the DPS clean up the enemy team from a safe spot. This formula has worked for decades because it’s just that effective.
So, if you want to win more matches, you need two solid Vanguards. But since no one wants to play them, how do we fix it?
The Simplest Solution: Give Players a Vanguard They Actually Want
Here’s the issue: Marvel Rivals has 9 Vanguards…but 20 Duelists. That’s more than double the options. Why wouldn’t people pick the more exciting role?
Now, let’s check the tier list:
💥 Only 2 of the 9 tanks are S-Tier
💥 Almost all the other S-Tier characters are Duelists (except Luna Snow & Mantis)
💥 Even The Thing, who got a ton of hype, is B-Tier while Human Torch is S-Tier
See the problem? Vanguards don’t feel as strong or exciting—so people just ignore them.

The Fix? Give Us a Game-Changing Vanguard
If Marvel Rivals really wants to balance out the role problem, they need to create Vanguards that are just as badass as DPS heroes.
Let’s take Doc Ock as an example:
✔️ Tanky enough to hold the front line
✔️ Has the mobility of a Duelist
✔️ Hits like a DPS
✔️ Counters flying characters (which would make him extra valuable)
Basically, a Vanguard that feels powerful, plays smoothly, and doesn’t feel like just another Hulk clone (yes, we’re looking at you, The Thing).
Instead of just dropping more bulky bruisers, we need tanks that are fun, versatile, and easy to pick up, even for die-hard Duelist mains. That’s the only way to get players excited about the role.
Will This Fix Everything?
Not completely—there will always be Duelist mains who refuse to swap. But if Marvel Rivals introduces a Vanguard that’s strong, popular, and fun, more players will learn the role, master it, and bring back that crucial 2-2-2 team comp.
And let’s be real: that means more wins, longer streaks, and way less frustration.
