In Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, gear isn’t just about powerโitโs part of your characterโs identity.
Each piece of equipment not only boosts your stats but also changes your characterโs visual appearance as they explore the world.
But what if your best gear doesn’t exactly match your ideal look? Enter the transmog systemโa simple, powerful feature that lets you separate form from function.
What Is Transmog?
Style Without Sacrificing Substance

Transmog, short for transmogrification, is a popular feature in RPGs that lets you equip one piece of gear for its stats while displaying a completely different one (or nothing at all) for aesthetics.
In Guardians of Azuma, this means you can enjoy the stat bonuses from a powerful but ugly helmetโwithout actually having to see it on your character. Better yet, this system isnโt just for your main heroโit works across your entire party.
How to Use the Transmog System
Quick, Easy, and Built Right into the Menu

To get started with transmog, head to the Gear menu:
- Press Menu (Xbox), Options (PlayStation), or + (Nintendo Switch).
- Select Edit Appearance at the top of the screen.
- Choose what you want your character to appear to be wearing. This is purely visual.
- If you prefer a cleaner look, use the Simple Look option to hide that gear slot entirely.
Once your character looks the way you want, itโs time to get tactical.
- Go to Edit Gear, also found in the Gear menu.
- Here, equip the items that actually deliver the best stats for gameplay.
And thatโs itโyouโve now separated performance from presentation.
Note: Only armor can be transmogged. Weapons and accessories will always be visible as equipped.

Donโt Forget About Your Party
Make Sure Everyoneโs Battle-Ready
The transmog system isnโt just for your main character. You can customize the appearance and gear loadout of any companion who joins you on your adventures.
Just tab through party members in the Gear menu using LB/L1 and RB/R1, and repeat the process:
- Set their appearance the way you like.
- Equip the best possible gear for their role in combat.
We highly recommend updating your entire partyโs gear regularly, especially as you move deeper into the main storyline. Itโs a quick step that can make a huge difference in battle.
The transmog system in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma gives you the best of both worldsโmaximum combat power and a look that suits your style.
Whether youโre rocking full armor or going minimalist with the Simple Look, your character will feel like an extension of your visionโwithout giving up any in-game advantage.
