Minecraft Snapshot & Bedrock Preview Update

Hey Minecraft fans! Mojang just dropped a fresh update for the Minecraft Java Snapshot and Bedrock Preview, bringing in some cool new features. This time, we’re getting two new chicken variants, cactus flowers, and dry grass!

What Are Snapshots & Previews?

Snapshots and Previews are early test versions of Minecraft, where players can check out upcoming features before they officially launch. While you can’t use your main world builds here, it’s a great way to see what’s coming next and help Mojang fix bugs before the big update rolls out.

Now, let’s dive into what’s new!

New Chicken Variants

Mojang has introduced two new chicken types, along with a slight tweak to the regular chicken:

  • Cold Chicken – Dark gray and blue with extra feather tufts on its head.
  • Warm Chicken – Looks like the classic chicken but with a golden color.
  • Temperate Chicken – That’s just the regular chicken, but now it has a fancy new name!

Each type of chicken spawns in different biomes:

  • Cold Chicken – Found in colder areas like snowy or icy biomes.
  • Warm Chicken – Spawns in warmer biomes like deserts or savannas.
  • Temperate Chicken – Appears in mild climates like plains and forests.

They also lay special eggs that match their type:

  • Blue Egg – Hatches a Cold Chicken.
  • Brown Egg – Hatches a Warm Chicken.
  • Regular Egg – Hatches a Temperate Chicken.

Dry Grass – A New Plant

This new plant comes in two sizes: Short Dry Grass and Tall Dry Grass. It spawns in deserts and badlands, similar to Dead Bushes but with a fresh look.

Here’s what you can do with it: ✔ Use Bone Meal on Short Dry Grass to make it taller.
Sheep can eat it to regrow wool.
Compost it for extra resources.
Use it as fuel for smelting.

Cactus Flowers – Pretty and Useful

Cactus Flowers now grow on top of cactuses in deserts and badlands, even if you move the cactus somewhere else. Bees love these flowers, and they make the game’s dry biomes feel more alive.

You can: ✔ Harvest them for Pink Dye.
Compost them.
✔ Watch some cactuses bloom naturally (but not all, just like in real life!).

Other Tweaks & Fixes

  • Fire mechanics changed – Fire won’t burn or spread unless a player is nearby.
  • Firework & Crossbow tooltips improved – Now shows better details.
  • Firefly Bush sounds adjusted – Plays ambient sounds only under certain conditions.
  • Bug fixes galore! – Tons of little issues got patched, making the game smoother.

Mojang is constantly improving Minecraft, and these small updates make the game more fun and immersive. While the mob vote was canceled in 2024, these new animal variants suggest that Mojang is still experimenting with new creatures.

If you want to check out these features before they hit the full game, jump into a Java Snapshot or Bedrock Preview and explore the updates for yourself!
