New Civilization 7 Update Adds a Must-Have Feature and Brings Back Team Multiplayer
Civilization 7 update 1.2 brings back Team Multiplayer, adds endless matches with One More Turn, and revamps resources for better strategy gameplay.
Firaxis just dropped the details on what’s coming in Civilization 7 update 1.2, and honestly, it’s shaping up to be one of the game’s best patches yet.
Between the addition of endless games, a total resources overhaul, and the return of Team Multiplayer, this update feels like a direct response to what fans have been asking for.
If you’ve been playing Civ 7, you know it’s already taken a bold new approach—splitting the game into three distinct Ages and cutting back on the micromanagement.
But while that’s been refreshing in some ways, not every change has landed perfectly. Thankfully, update 1.2 looks like it’s aiming to smooth out some of those rough edges.

Endless matches are finally a thing
First up: endless matches are finally a thing. The long-awaited “One More Turn” option is coming in this patch, so even after the Modern Age wraps up and a winner is declared, you can just keep going.
Whether you’re chasing different win conditions or just vibing with your civ, you’ll have the freedom to play as long as you want.
Firaxis even hinted that this might be extended to single-Age games in the future—so you could grind the Antiquity or Exploration Age forever if that’s your thing.
Also making a comeback is Team Multiplayer, a fan-favorite from Civ 6. Now, you can squad up with friends and take on rival teams together.
Everyone builds their civs individually, but the win goes to the team if one of you pulls off a victory. Great way to mix strategy with some co-op fun.
Resource generation is also getting a major overhaul. A common complaint with Civ 7 has been how repetitive the maps and resource layouts can feel.
Spicing things up
Firaxis is spicing things up by adding ten new resources and making resource placement more randomized. According to the devs:
“Every Age still guarantees certain key resources, so you can still progress along civ unlocks and the Economic Legacy Path. Beyond those, the resources on the map are now more variable!”
They’re also introducing something called the Hemisphere Identity system, which locks certain resources into specific parts of the map. It should make exploration and strategy a lot more exciting—and way less predictable.
That’s not all. The update also makes Food more important in the late game, dials down the number of over-the-top natural disasters, and brings in a ‘Repair All’ button to help cut down on micromanagement. Small change, big quality-of-life boost.
And while not everything’s ready just yet—like Steam Workshop support, auto-explore, and more advanced game setup options—Firaxis says those features are still in the works for future patches.
