Nintendo Switch Isn’t Done Yet – 5 New Games Still Coming Before and After Switch 2

Even with the Switch 2 launching this year, Nintendo has five new games coming to the original Switch through 2026, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Here’s what’s still on the way.
🎮 The Nintendo Switch Still Has Life Left—Here’s What’s Coming
While hype is building fast for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo is making it clear that it’s not done supporting the original Switch just yet. With one of the largest install bases of any console ever, the Switch is still getting big new titles well into 2025 and even 2026.
In its most recent financial report, Nintendo spotlighted five new games still in development for the Switch, proving that it’s not quite ready to let go of its most successful console just yet.
📝 New First-Party Switch Games in Development
Game Title | Release Window |
Pokemon Legends: Z-A | Late 2025 |
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond | 2025 |
Rhythm Heaven Groove | 2026 |
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream | 2026 |
Pokemon Champions | TBD |
Let’s take a quick look at each:
🔮 Pokemon Legends: Z-A (Late 2025)
The next big open-world Pokemon title returns to the Legends formula that fans loved in Arceus. It’s confirmed for the original Switch, but a Switch 2 Edition will also launch with enhanced visuals, performance, and new features.
👾 Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (2025)
After being announced way back in 2017, Metroid Prime 4 is finally real—and it’s landing on the Switch. It will also feature a Switch 2 version with mouse support, performance boosts, and likely faster load times.
🎵 Rhythm Heaven Groove (2026)
The beloved rhythm mini-game series makes its Switch return. No word yet on whether this one will receive a Switch 2 upgrade, but odds are good considering Nintendo’s push for enhanced editions.
🧑🤝🧑 Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (2026)
The quirky life sim is back. Miis, chaos, and all the weird charm you remember from the 3DS version—now in a brand-new entry for the Switch. No confirmation yet of a dual-platform release, but again, it seems likely.
⚔️ Pokemon Champions (TBD)
A new PvP-focused Pokemon experience that seems to be aiming at competitive fans. Nintendo hasn’t locked in a release year, but expect news once Z-A gets closer to launch.
🚀 What About the Switch 2?
The Switch 2 launches June 5, but Nintendo isn’t leaving behind the original. Several major Switch 1 games—like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land—are all getting upgrades on the new system.
New games like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will offer Switch 2 Editions with better performance and extra features. Nintendo appears to be following a soft transition model—similar to what we saw with the 3DS and Wii U—so players on both consoles won’t be left out.
Even with Switch 2 on the horizon, Nintendo still has big plans for the OG Switch, including highly anticipated titles like Metroid Prime 4, Rhythm Heaven Groove, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. If you’re not upgrading right away, you’ll still have plenty to look forward to in 2025 and 2026.
