As the hype train for Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) keeps picking up steam, it’s natural for fans to start asking: what’s the next remake in the series?
We’ve already been spoiled with the legendary glow-ups of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, so surely Capcom’s next move has to be a remake of the divisive yet iconic Resident Evil 5, right?
Well… not exactly. At least, not right now.
Resident Evil 5 Remake? Not in the Works (Yet)
According to Dusk Golem — a well-known insider for all things Resident Evil — there’s no Resident Evil 5 Remake currently in development.
When asked directly on Twitter, they shut down the speculation but did throw fans a sliver of hope: if demand grows loud enough, and if things line up the right way, Capcom could greenlight it someday.
Translation? If you want Resident Evil 5 Remake to happen, better start spamming that #RE5Remake hashtag and letting Capcom know.
What’s Actually Being Remade?
While RE5 is sitting on the bench for now, other classic entries are getting their turn in the spotlight. According to Dusk Golem, the remakes that are in development include:
- Resident Evil Code Veronica → finally getting the justice it deserves, after being skipped over for years. The insider even says progress is “going super well,” in large part because many devs from the RE4 Remake team are onboard.
- Resident Evil 0 → often overlooked but pretty crucial lore-wise, making it a solid pick for a modern reimagining.
So if you’re itching for updated Resident Evil goodness, these two are your next big stops.

Could Resident Evil 5 Even Work as a Remake?
Here’s the thing: Resi 5 is turning 20 years old in 2029, and while the original co-op shooter isn’t unplayable (it’s still available on modern hardware, yellow filter and all), it hasn’t exactly aged like fine wine either.
Fans are split on it — some loved the action-heavy direction, while others felt it leaned too far away from the horror roots of the series. But if Capcom ever gave it the same treatment as RE4 Remake? You can bet people would line up for that instantly.
Imagine a full visual overhaul, modern co-op mechanics, a scarier atmosphere, and maybe even some reworked story beats. Suddenly, RE5 Remake looks a lot more appealing.
Final Take: Code Veronica First, Then Maybe RE5
At the end of the day, the answer is pretty simple: Resident Evil 5 Remake isn’t happening right now. But Capcom hasn’t closed the book forever — if fans want it bad enough, and if the timing works, it could absolutely be next in line after Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0 hit shelves.
So while you’re waiting on Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) to drop, maybe it’s time to brush up on Veronica, revisit Zero, and keep the hype alive for a potential RE5 revival.
