Group Hints & Categories

  • ???? Yellow (easy): Parts of a college campus
  • ???? Green (medium): Exaggerated, as in a performance
  • ???? Blue (hard): Ways to close in on something or someone
  • ???? Purple (very hard): Beginning bits of Greek letter names

Full Grouped Answers

  • Yellow – College Campus Parts:
    CAFETERIA · DORM · LIBRARY · QUAD
  • Green – Over-the-Top Performance:
    CAMP · DRAMATIC · HAMMY · OVERDONE
  • Blue – Close In On:
    CORNER · SURROUND · TRAP · TREE
  • Purple – Starts of Greek Letters:
BET (beta) · DELT (delta) · LAMB (lambda) · THE (theta)

How I Cracked It

  1. Yellow fell first – those college landmarks stand out right away.
  2. Green clicked quickly – all those words scream “hammy acting.”
  3. Purple was the trickiest – spotted DELT, then realized these were greeks: Beta, Delta, Lambda, Theta.
  4. Blue was the last one – remaining words all fit variations of “closing in.”

NYT Connections #765 July 15, 2025

Daily Hints

  • Yellow (easiest) – Simone Biles’s equipment
  • Green – Terms meaning “force out” or “remove forcibly”
  • Blue – Horror movies released in 2022
  • Purple (toughest) – Words that follow “horse–”

Daily Answers

ColorCategoryWords
???? YellowGYMNASTICS APPARATUSBARS, BEAM, RINGS, VAULT
???? GreenFORCE TO LEAVEBOOT, BOUNCE, EJECT, REMOVE
???? BlueHORROR MOVIES FROM 2022NOPE, PEARL, SCREAM, SMILE
???? PurpleHORSE‑__FEATHERS, PLAY, POWER, SHOE

Solution Path:

  1. Start with the easy one (Yellow):
Seeing BARS, BEAM, RINGS, and VAULT almost instantly hints at gymnastics gear—solved that group in just two taps.
  2. Then go for Green:
Words like BOOT and EJECT clearly signal “kick out” vibes—easy to group under “force to leave.”
  3. Blue group mid-game:
NOPE, PEARL, SCREAM, SMILE are all titles of recent 2022 horror flicks—spotting them as a set felt natural once the theme clicks.
  4. Purple remains:
By elimination, the words FEATHERS, PLAY, POWER, SHOE follow “horse–” (horseplay, horsepower, horseshoe, horsefeathers). That last tough group completes the puzzle.

NYT Connections #764 July 14, 2025

Quick Hints

  • Yellow (Hues of Blue): think “powder blue,” “sky blue,” “ice blue,” etc.
  • Green (Sports Car Adjectives): classic car ad descriptors: sleek, fast, sporty, compact.
  • Blue (Before “Roger/s”): those kinda names go before “Roger” or variants.
  • Purple (Disney + letter): take Disney characters then add a twist (like “Belle” → “Belled”).

Below are the Answers:

Shades of Blue

This was the warm-up round—your basic loot drop.

  • BABY
  • ICE
  • POWDER
  • SKY

Soon as I saw “sky” and “baby,” I went full fashion sim. Thought, “These are color options on a character creator.” One-shot’d that set.

Adjectives for a Sports Car

Zoom zoom. This set had Need for Speed energy.

  • COMPACT
  • FAST
  • SLEEK
  • SPORTY

Got this one after side-eyeing SLEEK and SPORTY like they were rare skins. Felt like choosing car stats in a racing game menu. No-brainer.

Words Before “Roger” or “Rogers”

This one slowed me down. Not gonna lie—I thought I was in the wrong genre for a minute.

  • GINGER
  • JOLLY
  • MISTER
  • ROY

At first, I thought we were going for Santa’s elf names or something. Then the “Roger” connection clicked like unlocking a secret identity path in a detective sim.

Disney Characters + a Letter (Weird Set Alert)

This was the final boss. Purple always is.

  • ABUT
  • BELLED
  • FLOUNDERS
  • SCARY

This group was chaos. Like glitch text in a corrupted save file. But I saw BELLED and was like, “Yo… Belle with an extra ‘D’?” Then it all fell together. Felt like solving a word-based riddle in a Zelda shrine.

Game Over — Victory Screen

Cleared it in 4, but that purple was a puzzle trap. If you guessed FLOUNDERS was fishy (heh), you’re not alone.

This one had a great curve: easy entry, trick midgame, and a rogue-like final boss category. Just the way I like it.

NYT Connections #763 July 13, 2025

Hints by Category

  • ???? Yellow (Easiest): Words that land as insults or dismissive burns.
  • ???? Green: Think credit card info—all four fit on those forms.
  • ???? Blue: Slang for what you read—printed material.
  • ???? Purple (Trickiest): Slangy wine nicknames.

My Playthrough – Spoiler-Free

Jumped in with a scramble shuffle (always my first move to get fresh perspective). The green group was the fastest: “Expiration,” “Name,” “Number,” and “Zip”—felt like autofill day, so I grouped those first.

Then blue inked itself: nostalgic vibes hit me with words like “Mag” and “Glossy,” and once I saw those I knew “Zine” and “Rag” had to go with them.

Yellow was a soft landing: I caught the playful burns—knock, slight, burn, zing—and felt pretty confident dropping that set next.

Purple? That one had me spinning fonts—“Cab,” “Chard,” “Zin,” and “Bubbly.” I literally zoomed in on “Cab” and it clicked: wine time.

Felt great nailing it all with zero strikes. The theme flow felt crisp today.

Answers — Spoilers Ahead!

  • ???? Yellow (Insults/Burns): BURN · KNOCK · SLIGHT · ZING
  • ???? Green (Credit Card Info): EXPIRATION · NAME · NUMBER · ZIP
  • ???? Blue (Printed Matter): GLOSSY · MAG · RAG · ZINE
  • ???? Purple (Wine Nicknames): BUBBLY · CAB · CHARD · ZIN

Each game features four categories, ranked in difficulty:
???? Green – The easiest
???? Yellow – A little trickier
???? Blue – Tougher
???? Purple – The hardest

You can make up to four mistakes before the game ends, so be careful! Watch out for tricky wordplay—homophones, double meanings, and sneaky categories can throw you off.

???? Connections Strategy Tips

Start with the obvious group – Green is usually the easiest to spot!
Look for synonyms – Many categories are based on words with similar meanings.
Check for hidden themes – Sometimes words connect in ways you don’t expect (like today’s cake theme!).
Use process of elimination – If you’re stuck, make educated guesses and see what’s left.

FAQ’s

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is a daily word puzzle game by The New York Times. The goal is to group 16 words into four sets of four, based on hidden connections or themes. Each group is color-coded from easiest (yellow) to hardest (purple).

How do you play NYT Connections?

You’re shown 16 seemingly random words, and you must find four groups of four that share a common connection — like types of fruit, movie genres, or things that spin. Once you select a group, it’s removed from the board. You have only 4 mistakes before the game ends!

What do the colors mean in NYT Connections?

Each group of four words is assigned a color based on difficulty:
Yellow: Easiest
Green: Medium
Blue: Harder
Purple: Trickiest
The order helps guide your solving strategy — usually, yellow is most obvious, while purple is more abstract or wordplay-heavy.

When does NYT Connections reset?

A new Connections puzzle is released every day at midnight (ET). That means you can play a fresh challenge every morning — or stay up late and solve it at 12:01 a.m.

What’s a good strategy for solving Connections?

Look for obvious categories first (e.g. colors, numbers, sports teams)
Be cautious with words that could fit multiple groups — the game often uses red herrings
Try dragging different groupings to test your theory — you get 4 wrong guesses total
Use elimination — once you find one group, it makes the rest easier

Today’s Connections puzzle was a fun mix of pop culture, tech, and tasty treats! If you got it all without mistakes, you’re a word genius! ???? If not, no worries—there’s always tomorrow’s puzzle!

See you next time for more NYT Connections hints & answers! ???? Happy puzzling! ????????
