Oblivion Remastered: How to Complete “Whodunit?” Without Getting Caught (3 Easy Methods)

Planning the perfect murder party in Oblivion Remastered? Here’s how to ace the “Whodunit?” Dark Brotherhood quest — using stealth, persuasion, or Poisoned Apples!
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is packed with amazing open-ended quests and unforgettable faction storylines — and one of the most iconic has to be “Whodunit?” from the Dark Brotherhood questline.
In this quest, you’re basically thrown into a mansion with five strangers and told to quietly kill them all without anyone suspecting a thing. Fun, right? 😈
There are a few different ways to pull it off depending on your playstyle, so let’s break down how to start “Whodunit?” and three slick methods to complete it like a pro.

How to Start “Whodunit?” in Oblivion Remastered
First, you’ll need to work your way through the Dark Brotherhood questline.
- Finish the four intro contracts from Vicente Valtieri.
- Then get your assignments from Ocheeva.
- After you knock out “The Lonely Wanderer“ and “Bad Medicine”, she’ll offer you “Whodunit?” and send you off to Summitmist Manor in Skingrad.
Once you’re in Skingrad, follow your compass to the manor, grab the key from the doorman, and head inside. Let the party begin. 🎉
Your Targets
Inside Summitmist Manor, there are five guests you need to quietly eliminate:
- Dovesi Dran – a young Dunmer woman crushing hard on Primo.
- Matilde Petit – a cranky old Breton lady who doesn’t like Dovesi.
- Nels the Naughty – a big Nord dude hanging by the dining table.
- Neville – a rich ex-soldier pacing the lower floors.
- Primo Antonius – an ex-Imperial Legion Redguard wandering upstairs.
They all have their quirks and grudges against each other, which you can totally exploit.

Method 1: Classic Stealth Archery
This is the simple, no-frills way:
- Sneak around and snipe guests one by one with a good bow (Steel Arrows or better recommended).
- Land sneak attacks for that juicy 3x damage bonus — most guests will go down in a single shot.
- Make sure no one else sees you (keep an eye on your stealth indicator).
- Quick save often, especially before tricky shots.
Easy early targets:
- Primo when he’s chilling alone upstairs.
- Matilde when she’s near the stairwell.
- Neville when pacing alone downstairs.
Toughest Target:
- Nels, who camps with his back against the dining hall wall. You’ll need to peek carefully around the stairs and make a risky shot.

Method 2: Raise Their Disposition and Turn Them On Each Other
If you’re more about mind games than violence, you can work the social angle:
- Use Persuasion or Bribes to boost each guest’s Disposition to 70 or higher.
- Once they like you enough, they’ll start spilling secrets about the others.
- Some guests straight-up hate each other and, after enough deaths, will start pointing fingers — or even attack one another.
Key Rivalries:
- Dovesi hates Matilde and Primo.
- Primo hates Nords (like Nels).
- Nels hates Imperials (like Primo).
Strategy Tip: After you kill a few guests, talk to everyone left — you might be able to make them fight each other, leaving you to mop up whoever’s left.

Method 3: Poisoned Apple Massacre
Feeling lazy (or evil)? Just poison the snacks. 🍎
- Get Poisoned Apples: Buy them from M’raaj-Dar in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary (up to five available) or snag 10 from the Very Hard barrel in Fort Farragut (Lucien Lachance’s lair).
- Clear the food: Remove all edible items near your target.
- Drop or Pickpocket the Poisoned Apple into their inventory or on a table where they’ll eat.
- Watch the magic happen.
Warning: Make sure you don’t eat one yourself by accident — they deal permanent 10 HP/sec damage until death. No healing spell will save you.
Note: This method works for every guest except Nels, who rarely eats — you’ll have to take him out manually.
“Whodunit?” Quest Rewards & Bonus
If you manage to kill everyone without raising suspicion:
- Talk to Ocheeva, and you’ll receive the Night Mother’s Blessing.
- Permanent +2 boosts to Sneak, Security, Acrobatics, Blade, and Marksman — insanely good buffs for any stealthy playstyle.
- Plus, a fat pile of Gold (scales with your level).
- You’ll also unlock your next contract, “Permanent Retirement,” which is… exactly as shady as it sounds.
