Oblivion Remastered: How to Get & Use Welkynd Stones

Welkynd Stones are your best friend in Oblivion Remastered if you’re running a mage build. Here’s how to use them and where to find a steady supply around Cyrodiil.
Oblivion Remastered: How To Get & Use Welkynd Stones
Welkynd Stones are easily one of the most useful items you can get your hands on in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered—especially if you’re running a magic-heavy build. Since most high-level spells eat through your Magicka bar fast, having a reliable way to refill it instantly makes a huge difference. That’s where Welkynd Stones come in.
In this guide, you’ll find out how these glowing blue gems work, where to farm them, and why they’re so good to keep around.
How To Use Welkynd Stones In Oblivion Remastered
Using a Welkynd Stone is super simple. You can either use it directly from your inventory or assign it to one of your hotkeys (1–8) for quick access during combat. As soon as you use it, it completely refills your Magicka bar—no matter how massive it is—and then disappears.

They work kind of like a Magicka potion, except instead of recovering a portion, you get the full bar back instantly. So if you’re planning on throwing around big spells like Blizzard or Disintegrate Weapon, these stones are gonna be your lifeline.
Now, if you’re deep into Spellcraft and you’ve already figured out how expensive it is to keep your Magicka topped off with potions, Welkynd Stones just make way more sense. A single potion might weigh 0.5 and only restore 200–250 Magicka, which means you’d need two or three just to refill a large pool. A Welkynd Stone weighs 1.0 but gets the job done in one go.
Where To Find Welkynd Stones In Oblivion Remastered
Your best bet for farming Welkynd Stones is exploring Ayleid Ruins. These are all over Cyrodiil and usually filled with traps, undead, and (most importantly) glowing blue stones perched on pedestals or tucked away in ancient halls.
Just a heads-up though: Welkynd Stones don’t respawn. Once you’ve cleared out a ruin, that’s it. So if you find a bunch, stash them somewhere safe like a house or a chest in your base of operations.
Also, don’t get them confused with Varla Stones. Those look similar but are white instead of blue, and they’re used to fully recharge all your enchanted items. They’re way rarer and worth a ton more—around 1000 gold each—so save them for gear maintenance, not spellcasting.

Best Places to Farm Welkynd Stones Early On
If you’re just starting out and want to load up, here are a few Ayleid Ruins near the Imperial City where you can snag a bunch:
- Fanacasecul – South of Weye, just under the bridge to the Imperial City.
- Vindasel – Southeast of Weye, near Lake Rumare’s edge.
- Sardavar Leed – On the coast, south of the Imperial City.
- Vanua – Underwater in Lake Rumare, near the mouth of the Upper Niben River.
- Vilverin – On an island northeast of the Imperial City.
- Sercen – North of the city, near the Red Ring Road.
- Piukanda – Inside the Great Forest, also north of the city.
All of these are positioned in a rough circle around the Imperial City, so you can easily hit them one by one in a clockwise or counterclockwise loop and walk away with a good haul.
Welkynd Stones are a game-changer for any magic-focused character. Whether you’re going full destruction mage or just dabbling in spellcraft, having a few of these in your inventory can save your life—literally. They’re light, efficient, and way better than chugging potions mid-fight.
Stock up early, save your best ones for tough battles, and keep your Magicka flowing.
