Oda just revealed a shocking connection between Elbaf’s Loki and the legendary pirate Rocks D. Xebec in One Piece Chapter 1145. Here’s how their past encounter changes everything.

The Elbaf Arc in One Piece continues to deliver twist after twist, and with Chapter 1145, fans were hit with one of the biggest surprises yet. Eiichiro Oda has revealed a shocking piece of Loki’s past—and it involves none other than the infamous pirate legend, Rocks D. Xebec.

Loki and Rocks D. Xebec: An Unexpected Past

In Chapter 1145, it’s revealed that Loki—Prince of Elbaf—once met and even fought against Rocks D. Xebec. Long before the current events of One Piece, Loki sailed the seas several times, one of which led to a direct encounter with the legendary Rocks.

While most fans assumed Loki’s sailing adventures started around 14 years ago after the death of King Harald, this new info changes everything. According to the timeline, their meeting would’ve taken place over 40 years ago, before Rocks’ supposed death at the God Valley Incident (38 years ago).

At that time, Loki would’ve been about 28 years old, but since Giants age at half the rate of humans, that would make him only around 14 in Giant years—still considered very young and far from his prime. That explains why the battle was incredibly one-sided.

“I can imagine having that certain someone to look up to as a kid. I was the same.” — Loki

Why Loki Sought Out Rocks

Loki wasn’t looking for a fight at first—he actually wanted to join the Rocks Pirates. It’s clear from the chapter that Loki deeply admired Rocks and saw him as the only one worthy of his respect. But Rocks wasn’t interested and turned him down, leading Loki to challenge him head-on.

“If you’re not gonna take me with you, then fight me.” — Loki to Xebec

As expected, Rocks completely overwhelmed Loki in the battle. Not only was Loki far too young, but he also didn’t have a Devil Fruit at the time (he only gained his powers around 14 years ago).

That loss ended up becoming one of Loki’s biggest regrets. He still looks back and wishes he had been born earlier—old enough to join the Rocks Pirates and fight alongside his idol. Now that Rocks is gone and the crew is no more, Loki can’t live that dream—but he can carry on Xebec’s legacy.

A Deeper Look at Loki’s Character

Loki’s admiration for Rocks gives fans a fresh perspective on his character. In many ways, his relationship to Xebec mirrors Luffy’s admiration for Shanks—a younger generation inspired by a pirate legend they’ll never fully catch up to. It’s an emotional layer that makes Loki’s arc even more compelling.

With this setup, fans are now hoping Oda gives us Loki’s full flashback, showing more of his connection to Rocks and how it shaped who he is today. That moment doesn’t feel far off.

When Does Chapter 1145 Release?

One Piece Chapter 1145 officially drops on April 6, 2025. In Japan, it releases at 12 AM JST on April 7, but international fans can catch it earlier depending on time zones. You can read it for free on Manga Plus when it goes live.
