If you thought Niantic was done surprising us in 2025, think again. Pokemon GO has been absolutely packed this year—new evolutions, legendary raids, shiny hunts, you name it.
From Snom finally chilling in our collections to Zacian and Zamazenta rocking their new Crowned forms, it’s been a wild ride.
And now we have reached the big spectacle: the Max Finale event, where one of the most infamous Legendary Pokemon has finally dropped into Pokemon GO.
Yep, we are talking about Eternatus—and not just Eternatus, but its terrifying Eternamax form. Cue the boss music. 🎶
Eternatus Raids: The Biggest Challenge Yet
For the Max Finale, Eternatus is locked behind Tier 6 Raid Battles. And here’s the kicker—you’ll need 100 players to take it down. Yes, one hundred. Forget that awkward “waiting for lobby to fill” moment; now you’ll feel like you’re organizing a small esports tournament every time you raid.
Niantic also upped Raid limits in general, which has fans speculating that this could set the stage for even harder bosses in the future. The grind never stops.
The Deluxe GO Pass Drama
Alongside this mega event, Niantic dropped the shiny new Deluxe GO Pass (literally shiny… or is it?). At first, players thought the pass was their golden ticket to boosted shiny odds in Dynamax battles. Sounds sweet, right?
Well, here comes the catch. One player JustKitten_RightMeow shared a chat with Niantic Support revealing that those boosted shiny odds only apply to the Pokémon you encounter through the pass rewards—not every Dynamax battle. Translation: your Eternatus hunt isn’t suddenly turning into a shiny fiesta just because you picked up the pass. Ouch.
For a feature that was marketed as increasing “Dynamax Battle Shiny rates,” that’s a little misleading. And as of now, Niantic hasn’t given players an official clarification outside of that support response. Still, the community’s not too thrilled, and honestly… fair.
What’s Next After Max Finale?
Even with this shiny confusion, the Max Finale event is still one of the year’s biggest highlights. Eternatus in its Eternamax form? That’s a bucket-list catch.
But of course, Pokemon GO isn’t stopping here. Niantic already teased the next wave of content:
- The Sunkissed Shores event is coming next week and brings Dondozo from Gen 9. (Get ready, water-type fans.)
- Rumors are flying about Tera Pokémon making their debut soon. If true, that could shake up raids in a big way.
Basically, while the Max Finale closes the book on the Sword & Shield era, the Paldea era is clearly knocking at the door.
Worth the Pass?
If you’re chasing Eternatus during Max Finale, the Deluxe GO Pass still has some perks, but don’t expect boosted shiny odds across all Dynamax raids. It’s more of a “cherry on top” bonus than an automatic golden shiny machine.
For collectors and hardcore raiders, it might still be worth it. For casual players… maybe save those coins for the next event. After all, with Dondozo on the horizon and possibly Tera raids, it’s looking like Pokemon GO’s future is just getting started.
