Big changes are rolling out in the world of Pokemon GO, and they’re not all about raids and rare spawns.

After stepping in for Niantic, Scopely is making moves—starting with a brand-new feature called Community Campsites.

It’s designed to bring local trainers together with extra PokeStops and Gyms… but let’s just say, the fanbase is split.

If you’re somehow new here, Pokemon GO has been the go-to mobile game for catching, training, and battling adorable monsters since 2016.

Now in its ninth year, it’s still going strong, with over 90 million players logging in every month to chase that shiny magic.

This summer is going to be wild: Pokemon GO Fest 2025 is making a grand return! The in-person celebration is headed to Osaka (Japan), Jersey City (USA), and Paris (France)—so get those travel plans ready if you want to meet other trainers IRL. And before that, the Legendary Giants are stomping back into the game for the Ancients Recovered event from June 23 to 27. Bring your best counters!

Now back to the big news: on June 21, during Pokemon GO Community Day—which, by the way, stars the dragon-type cutie Jangmo-o—trainers will get their first taste of Community Campsites.

These new spots are tied to the Community Ambassador Program and can only be set up by official ambassadors. Basically, it’s all about building stronger local communities, with Ambassadors getting cool perks like item codes, feedback loops, and ongoing support.

But… not everyone’s stoked.

Reactions on social media have been a mixed bag. Some folks think it’s an awesome way to make friends and level up the community vibe. Others? Not so much.

One popular take: “Why are the devs trying to make me talk to people?!” Others pointed out how tricky it is to become a Community Ambassador, with several trainers still waiting to hear back about their applications.

Meanwhile, outside of the mobile realm, Pokemon fans are buzzing for July—because that’s when the next Pokemon Presents showcase is landing.

Everyone’s hoping to see fresh gameplay from Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and maybe—just maybe—a big Gen 10 reveal.

So whether you’re setting up a Community Campsite or keeping your eye on that Legendary raid schedule, it’s a busy time to be a trainer. Just remember to stock up on Poké Balls… and maybe some social energy.
