A new rumor suggests Red Dead Redemption 2 may finally get its long-awaited PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade this year, possibly bringing improved graphics and performance.

Red Dead Redemption 2 May Finally Be Getting Its Next-Gen Upgrade

After years of speculation and fan requests, Red Dead Redemption 2 may finally be getting its long-overdue PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade in 2025. According to a new report from Gamereactor, sources close to Rockstar Games claim that a next-gen patch is in the works—and it could be coming later this year.

Originally released back in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 was a massive hit, earning critical acclaim and selling millions of copies. It’s widely considered one of the greatest games of all time, and despite being seven years old, it still holds up incredibly well. That said, the lack of a proper current-gen version has been a sore spot for many fans, especially since the game doesn’t run at 60 FPS on consoles.

Details on the rumored upgrade are still scarce, but the patch will reportedly bring improved graphics and performance to match the capabilities of the PS5 and Xbox Series X. A bump to 60 FPS alone would be a huge deal, not to mention the potential for enhanced visuals and loading times.

Interestingly, this isn’t the only Red Dead rumor floating around. There’s also speculation that Red Dead Redemption 2 could be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. Considering the first Red Dead Redemption made it to the original Switch, that wouldn’t be too far-fetched—but for now, it’s all unconfirmed.

If this upgrade does happen, it would be a smart move for Rockstar. With Grand Theft Auto 6 now officially delayed to May 2026, the studio has no major releases planned for 2025. A next-gen RDR2 update—and maybe even a GTA 4 current-gen port—could help keep fans happy during the wait.

As always, nothing’s official yet, so take it all with a grain of salt. But if these rumors turn out to be true, 2025 could be a great year to saddle up and ride through the wild west all over again—this time in 60 FPS.
