Oblivion Remastered: Should You Help Teekeeus or Earana in Chorrol?

Not sure who to help in the Chorrol Mages Guild Recommendation quest? Here’s what happens if you give the Fingers of the Mountain book to Teekeeus or Earana in Oblivion Remastered.
Oblivion Remastered: Should You Side with Teekeeus or Earana in Chorrol?
Book drama, magical rewards, and one nosy High Elf.
In the Chorrol Recommendation quest from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, you’ll find yourself caught between two characters fighting over a mysterious book called Fingers of the Mountain. On one side, you’ve got Teekeeus, the local head of the Mages Guild. On the other? Earana, a suspicious High Elf with her own motives.
So who should you give the book to? Does it matter? And what’s the real benefit here? Let’s break it down.
🧙♂️ If You Give the Book to Teekeeus
- ✅ You immediately complete the Chorrol Recommendation quest.
- 📜 You get your Recommendation Letter + +2 Fame.
- 👀 Earana will ask you to steal the book back—this starts Fingers of the Mountain, Part II.
- 🛏️ Teekeeus keeps the book in his room (Guild Living Quarters, 3rd floor)—you can steal it with or without prompting from Earana.
- 💬 Teekeeus won’t punish you for taking it. He’ll just throw shade like, “You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you?”
✔️ Best outcome for Reputation & Mages Guild Progress
⚡ Also lets you still get the custom spell from Part II

🧝♀️ If You Give the Book to Earana
- ✉️ She gives you +1 Fame and starts Fingers of the Mountain, Part II.
- 🧙 Teekeeus will ask you to steal it back from Earana.
- 📖 Her copy is in her room at the Grey Mare Inn—easy to grab.
- ✅ Once you return it, Teekeeus gives you the Recommendation letter.
✔️ Still completes the quest
❌ Slightly less Fame
🕵️♂️ Still involves sneaking and stealing
🔥 What About the Fingers of the Mountain Spell?
Once you finish Part II by giving the book to Earana (after she gets it at any point), wait 24 in-game hours and talk to her again. She’ll give you instructions to unlock a powerful lightning spell:
- Bring any Shock spell and a Welkynd Stone.
- Return to Cloud Top (where you found the book).
- Cast the Shock spell at the marble pillar.
- ⚡ You’ll get struck by lightning (survivable if you prep).
- 🎇 You’ll be granted the Fingers of the Mountain spell.
Is it worth it?
Ehh… kinda. It’s flashy and strong early on but super expensive to cast. You’ll likely outgrow it fast once you unlock custom spell crafting through the Mages Guild or Frostcrag Spire.
Who Should You Give the Book To?
Choice | Fame | Recommendation? | Can Get Spell? | Effort Level |
Teekeeus | +2 | ✅ Immediate | ✅ Yes | Medium (optional stealth) |
Earana | +1 | ✅ After stealing | ✅ Yes | Medium (optional stealth) |
Best Pick:
Give it to Teekeeus. You get more Fame, finish the guild quest faster, and can still do the spell quest if you want.
But if you’re feeling a little chaotic? Flip the script and go full thief—it won’t break anything major either way.
