Caught in the creepy dream world of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon and not sure what to do about Abhartach’s weird bite request? Here’s a full breakdown of the “I See Darkness” quest and all your choices.
“I See Darkness” Quest Guide – What To Do About Abhartach in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon
If you’ve made it to the Horns of the South area in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you’re probably starting to notice that things are getting… weirder.
Refugees are sick, Keepers are infected, and suddenly you’re being asked to get bitten by some creepy ancient being? Yeah, it’s one of those quests.
Here’s a complete breakdown of the “I See Darkness” quest, including whether or not you should let Abhartach bite you.
How To Start “I See Darkness”
While wandering around the Village, you’ll come across a man locked in a cage with a concerned woman named Betrys nearby.
Talk to her, and she’ll fill you in on a mysterious illness spreading among the refugees and some of the Keepers in the nearby fortress.
Offer to help, and boom—you’ve started the “I See Darkness” quest.
She’ll point you toward a camp up north of the fortress, near King’s Road.
Follow the quest marker and prepare to deal with a nasty Corpse Eater when you get there. Once it’s dealt with, interact with the sleeping mat near the marker to enter a dream world.
That’s when things take a surreal turn.

Meet Abhartach – The Fore-Dweller
Once inside the dream world, follow the eerie voice calling out to you. Eventually, you’ll come across Abhartach, a chained, ancient being chilling (well, not really chilling) in a pit. He’ll ask you to come closer and says he only needs “one bite.”
Yeah, that’s not sketchy at all.
He’ll claim that biting you will help cure the infected folks back in the real world. Now, here’s the big decision:
Let Abhartach Bite You… or Nah?
Option 1: Let Him Bite You
- You’ll take a bit of damage.
- Surprise twist: your blood, infused with Arthur’s power, is toxic to him.
- He dies instantly. No fight.
- You loot his body and get the Fore-Dweller’s Bauble (a magical focus).
Option 2: Refuse the Bite
- Abhartach gets pissed and attacks.
- This triggers a boss fight, but it’s honestly underwhelming—he’s super weak.
- He attacks once, then collapses from exhaustion.
- You still get the same loot and rewards as if you let him bite you.
So honestly? It’s your call. Want a quick and easy way out? Let him bite you. Want to feel like you won a “boss fight” even though he barely swings at you? Refuse and fight.
After Abhartach: Back to the Village
Once you’re done with dreamland drama, head back to Betrys. You’ll find out that Mahon (one of the Keepers) recovers, thanks to your help.
Unfortunately, Col, Betrys’ beloved, isn’t so lucky. He’s still catatonic and beyond saving.
One Last Choice: End Col’s Suffering?
If your Spirituality stat is high enough, you’ll get the chance to persuade Betrys to let you end Col’s misery.
- Succeed, and she’ll agree to let you do it during the night.
- Do it quietly, avoid getting a bounty, and you’ll earn extra gold and XP.
- Do it quietly, avoid getting a bounty, and you’ll earn extra gold and XP.
- Fail, and the quest just ends right there—no extra loot, no resolution.
What Should You Do?
- Let Abhartach bite you for an easy resolution. Same reward either way.
- Refuse if you want a (very short and easy) boss fight.
- End Col’s suffering for bonus XP and gold—but only if you’ve got the Spirituality to convince Betrys.
That’s it for “I See Darkness”! Whether you’re letting ancient beings snack on you or pulling the plug on tragic love stories, this quest delivers some solid emotional weight—and rewards, too.
